WHO IS DOUGLAS MBEWE AND WHAT DOES HE DO?

ouglas Mbewe known as Mr DVD age (30), He is a
recording artist, actor, presenter and comedian at
Mahlalela Entertainment Production.
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU START TO SING?
I was (9) years of age and when my granny was owning a shebeen in
a township called zone 6 Sebokeng. I used to sing in front of her
customers and that’s how everything started.
WHEN DID YOU START TO RECORD YOUR FIRST SONG AND
HOW WAS THE EXPERIENCE?
It was in 2009 when I first recorded my first afro pop song called ‘Ndimilo’.
The experienced was good because I was used to live performance and sing.
My first experience happened at my school Qedilizwe Secondary School and
Ruta Setjaba Secondary.
WHY HAVEN’T YOU CHANGED THE SONG 8 YEARS LATER AS IT WAS
RECORDED?
Because of the quality of the song and understanding of both market and
style of singing was misunderstood by many hence the prolonging to release
the song but it was re-recorded and released by Mahlalela Entertainment
Production in association with Sheer Publishing Africa in 2017, 20 October.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FROM 2018 ONWARDS FOR THE HIGHWAY
MUSIC PRODUCTION AND YOU AS INDIVIDUAL?
With regards to Highway I have changed the plan but haven’t changed
the goal due to the fact we are not all sharing the same passion and
ambitious, so I will say it was my stepping stone and with me
individual I’m working on my album that will be release next year. Only
time will tell as I am a model and face of Mahlalela Entertainment
production as well as a project manager for the 1 st Annual Valentine
Night Festival.
WHY PEOPLE COMPARE YOU WITH RINGO?
Because of the texture of the voice, energy and approach. The
harmony and sounds differentiate us which also includes the style.
WHY DID YOU LEAVE YOUR DAY JOB AND AFTER HOW LONG
HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING THERE?
I have been working at Wimpy for (9) years whereby I managed to kick
start highway music production and manage it, go to college to study
marketing communication at Damelin and also build a house and a
family. At the age of 30 I had to leave Wimpy because I felt like I was
stuck and doing one thing day in day out.
WHERE AND HOW DO YOU GET YOUR SUPPORT?
I get my support from my life managers Mr and Mrs Mbewe. They are
there and they have been there since day one till today.
WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN YOUR MUSIC
CAREER?
In 2015, we were involved in a big accident where I was badly hurt
and I had to stay in hospital for 5 months. The highway music ENGLISH
production broad only misery in my musical career.
HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU
HAVE?
I have three children which are (2) boys
and a girl. Lesedi (9), Thabo (5) and
Thulani (5)
DID YOU OFFICIALLY GET MARRIED?
I only paid lobola to the mother of Thabo
but unfortunately thinks didn’t go well as
planned.
WHAT ARE WORDS OF WISDOM?
As the gun has been loaded, mine is to
shoot and see the bad dies by the looks
of the things, the bad is definitely dead.
WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?
To work hard and gain field
experience whilst I am under and
working Mahlalalela
Entertainment Production.
To work towards opening a
production company.
