Mack Motes and SHADOW ’ S ROYAL FLUSH won their preliminary to the championship in the first of two divisions for three-year-old stallions . Mack had his horse doing enough to turn back the bids of the final 14 horses selected to do battle for the blue ribbon . Sam Caldwell and DELIGHT CAN DO did indeed DO , although not
quite enough to get the first-place award . This strong black stallion can go in any competition and his young trainer turned in a solid riding job . Preach Fleming and SUNDUST JAMBOREE were in contention all the way and received one first-place vote for their effort .

The second half of the three-year-old competition saw a wide divergence of opinion among the judges , as each man tied a different horse first . Coming out on top after making a real solid show was C . C . TRADEMARK . Dickie Pate had this colt only a short time prior to the Celebration and did a truly remarkable job of showing him . The reserve award in this division went to GUNSMOKE ’ S FIREBALL and Ronnie Spears . Ronnie and his 1968 Two-Year-Old World Champion made a determined bid for the blue and received one first-place vote and two reserves . MIS TER REE and Albert Rowland were the third choice of the judges from the 14-horse workout .

Last year ' s World Champion team of MOONGLOW JR . and Burt Daugette picked up where they left off with a sweep of all the judges ' cards for a most impressive victory over one of the most talented amateur fields of all time . Burt and her horse were not only popular with the judges — the crowd also cheered them as they executed three gaits in championship style . A strong second was won by HURRY SUNDOWN and Patti Reams . This young lady rider can do it all , and she has the horse to do it with . The numberthree choice of the judges was SHADOW ’ S MO TION MAN and Lindsey Apel .
