CHARLIE BOBO AWARDED TITLE OF
"TRAINER OF THE YEAR’’ AT CELEBRATION
On the final Saturday night of the Celebration, C. A.
Bobo was called to the center of the ring to be pre
sented with "The Trainer Of The Year’’ Award. This
is indeed an honor, because it is voted on by the pro
fessional trainers who are members of the Trainers
Association. Mr. Bobo received the second annual
award - the first "Trainer Of The Year,’’ in 1968, was
Trainers Association president Vic Thompson.
A group of Walking Horse trainers and owners met
in Cullman, Alabama on July 16, 1969 and formed
the Walking Horse Association of Alabama, Inc. The
Association was incorporated under the laws of the
State of Alabama, and incorporation papers were filed
in the Probate Judge’s office in Cullman.
Charter members of the Association are: Julian
Bland; W. O. Crawford; Dr. Rogers Cox; Bud Dunn;
L. M. "Red" Hilley; "Doc" Huey; Clay Parsons; Capt.
E. A. Self; "Sonny" Southerland; Hershel Talley;
George Witt; Lloyd Wood; and Bobby Young.
The purpose of the Association is to promote and
further the breed of the Tennessee Walking Horse,
and the men involved certainly have the experience
with and knowledge of Walking Horses to achieve
their purpose.
