True ! They did have some real problems . A lot of our finest professionals elected not to show at their own show . Their reasons were perhaps justified . The method of selecting the judge from among the trainers was a little unorthodox for some of them and they decided to " see what happened " this year . Still others could not adjust quickly to the new boot rulings and simply could not get their horses ready to show . There was also an element that was just plain against it from the beginning — some people tend to be against anything they can ’ t control . All things considered , however , it was a great success . In discussing the show with several trainers who did not participate , we learned that if they had realized the winners of this show would be crowned " National Champions ’’ they would have made an extra effort to attend . Maybe next year , boys ! We can foresee the time when a winner at the Walking Horse National will have almost as much prestige and financial value as a " world champion .’ ’
The judging system was generally well received and provided an opportunity to see some people mark the cards that we haven ' t seen much of before . In almost every case we will have to admit that " the best horse won ” and that the judges for the various classes did a commendable job . Judges for all open classes were drawn from the entries after they came into the ring and judges for Juvenile and Ladies Classes were drawn from the membership of the Trainers Association . It worked very well and we heard very few complaints .
The officials inside the ring also did a commendable job , with the amiable Bill Carrington at the mike and
Jimmy Richardson at the console of his famous horse show organ . Ed Eggert was the manager of the show
and he and Mrs . Vic Thompson , ring secretary , made a fine team . James Rowland and Buddy Moore were very efficient ringmasters , with Mr . Rowland acting in a dual capacity in one case where his name was chosen as the judge of a Juvenile Class . The up-andcoming horse photographer , Jim Dixon of Burlington , North Carolina , was the official photographer and took his usual excellent action and ribbon pictures . Jim also had a part on the program of the Clinic , as he gave some hints on taking horse pictures .
Complete results appear elsewhere in this issue , along with ribbon pictures and photos of the judges of the respective classes . If you missed the First Annual Walking Horse National this year , make a note to be sure and attend next year . It promises to become one of the truly top-ranking horse shows of the nation .

Can you tell which leg is lame ?

Pointing of left foreleg and dipping of head shows that the left foreleg is lame .
When this or other symptoms of lameness show up , treat your horse anti-lameness conditioner . For stiffness , strained tendons , sore shins , any swelling , bumps or bruises , use Absorbine full strength . It helps draw out soreness and reduces lameness .
Better yet , help prevent sore legs . Rub down and cool out your horse with an Absorbine body wash every day . W . F . Young , Inc ., Springfield , Mass . 01101
