The First Walking Horse National Champion was crowned at Ellington
Agricultural Center , Nashville , Tennessee , Friday , April 11 , 1969 . Winner of the big S3,000 Championship Stake was GO BOY ’ S BLACK ANGEL , the 1968 World Champion Mare and a leading contender for the Grand Championship this year . She defeated a class of seven entries , including several genuine contenders for 1969 , to win the roses of this first Walking Horse National . With trainer C . A . Bobo up for Mr . and Mrs . M . R . Corbin of Houston , Texas , " THE Mare ’’ proved in convincing manner that she can go with the best .
The First Annual Walking Horse National Horse Show , sponsored by the Walking Horse Trainers Association , is now a part of the history of this great breed . A lot of people said " it can ’ t be done ” and they set about trying to prove their point . But trying to tell a Walking Horse trainer that he " can ’ t ” do something is like waving a red flag in front of a bull .
