and breaks as high in front as many aged horses with only one pair of light chains. We have high hopes for her and expect to send her to Marvin Wilson in the near future for finishing. She has the intriguing name of TRUE DREAM and she really is. The other threeyear-old filly is not quite as far along but she is improving rapidly. In the two-year-old group the best two at this point are a bay stud colt by MIDNIGHT SECRET and a filly by GLORY’ S DARK DESTINY and out of a MERRY BOY mare. Both of these colts show much promise and we expect them to be ready for the two-year-old classes in the spring.
" My daughter, Lindsey, whom you have met, is working these colts with much help from Marvin. Lindsey’ s special delight, however, is GOLDFINGER, and the fabulous way he is working. Horsemen who have followed him in his past career have told us that he is absolutely the best since he won the two-year-old Championship at the Celebration. We have had many buyers come to see him and have been offered fine

prices, but we are very reluctant to sell. We have a four-year-old black stallion in training with Marvin at Vic Thompson Stables that we bred and raised. He is by a brother of MAJOR WILSON and is developing into a very fine natural-going show horse. " Last, but by no means least, is SHADOW’ S MO TION MAN. I am convinced, and so are many horsemen and trainers in Middle Tennessee, that this is one of the greatest Walking Horse stallions in the industry. He has been getting better with each show and the culmination of the past season was his stake win at the Chicago International Horse Show. Lindsey is being tutored by Marvin and Vic to show ' MOTION MAN in many of the amateur classes in the coming season. Marvin will show- him in many of the open classes also. I can’ t say enough about this horse and it is and has been a great pleasure owning him.
" I hope this will give you some idea of wrhat we are doing here in Portsmouth. With each passing month the operation becomes larger and more satisfying.”
Thanks, Doc! We w ' ill be looking for Lindsey and the fine Apel stock.
McKenzie stables
Things are buzzing at this new stable, located five miles north of Ashburn, Georgia just off 1-75. Henry McKenzie, owner-trainer, reports that they have a good crop of two-year-olds now ' under saddle and have bright hopes for several of them.
Just to mention a few, they are working a real nice filly for J. W. Renfroe of Troy, Alabama. She is bv MACK K’ S SPEEDWAY and is big, loose, and hitting a real big lick. She will be ready to show ' shortly. They have a two-year-old stud owned by T. E. Kennedy, Jr. of Ashburn. This is a big, fine-looking colt that was started late. He is coming along real well and is also by MACK K’ S SPEEDWAY. In training is a beautiful black three-year-old stud owned by L. E. Barry of Sycamore, Georgia. This horse was shown only one time last year as a twoyear-old because he was started late. He has come into his own during the winter months and will be ready for three-year-old competition as soon as the gates open.
Also in training is a nice big black two-year-old stud colt owned by O. P. Stewart of Ashburn. This colt is by GO BOY’ S LIMOUSINE and should make a good horse. Henry informed us that this one is for sale.
They also have a two-year-old filly by GO BOY’ S LIMOUSINE that is a thing of beauty. She is solid black with conformation out of this world. Henry thinks this is the best colt they have ever broke, and they are offering her for sale. HANDSHAKER’ S HI JACK will be showing in aged competition this year. This fancy seven-year-old gelding is owned by Hugh Griffith of Austell, Georgia, and is by MACK K’ S HANDSHAKER, 1960 World Grand Champion. He is fat, pretty and ready to go.
The horses at McKenzie Stables will be seen this year at shows in Georgia, Florida and Alabama. They have room for several more aged horses and offer the very best in facilities and care for your horses. Drop by this stable whenever you are in the area.
BARWINN STABLES
Barwinn Stables, owned by Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Winn of West Bend, Wisconsin, has been enjoying a busy winter, with the addition of Lonnie and Sue Templeton, formerly of Minnesota, to its training staff. Lonnie has been working a number of two-year-olds, including the black filly HEATHER GO BOY owned by Mr. and Mrs. William R. Kuehl of Colgate, Wisconsin.
Among the Junior horses is the exciting black stallion, HILL’ S GO BOY AGAIN, owned by Barwinn Stables, that was recently brought up from the Harber & Cherry Stables in Centerville, Tennessee. This one has a big lick and is coming on strong.
SUE’ S SHINING SLIPPERS, the beautiful chestnut mare owned by the John Kop family of Prior Lake, Minnesota, has matured much since her showing at Chicago and is looking forward to a successful season for her owners on the Minnesota circuit.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Newman of Bayport, Minnesota are anticipating another exciting season with their great NEWMAN’ S WALK AWAY. This big, black gelding has an extremely bold way of going and is greatly improved over last season. The Newmans also have a fine two-year-old filly— you’ ll be hearing more about this one at a later date.
Permanent Construction Company of Milwaukee has two fine horses at Barwinn, ELDORADO BOY and INVASION’ S BIG BOY. These horses have been shown very successfully by Phil Krueger and Nancy Noeske. INVASION’ S BIG BOY was the Reserve Wisconsin Walking Horse Association Amateur Champion in 1968.
GO BOY’ S IMAGE K by MERRY GO BOY out of MIDNITE ROSE LEE is a handsome black stallion owned by the William Kuehls. He is standing the 1969 season at the stable and is creating quite a stir among Walking Horse people in this area. His stud book is really filling fast and there should be some very good little IMAGES walking around in 1970.
Barwinn has a fine selection of horses for sale and visitors are always welcome to come and watch these and all the other fine horses work in the comfortable,
I very clean, new facilities at the Stables.( Continued on page 34)
