SUN'S HOLIDAY
DOMINATES SHOW
Up to and above its usual tradition, the Milwaukee
Spring Horse Show was a great affair. The hard-work
ing committee of Warren Maloney, General Chairman;
Sam Kagen, show co-ordinator; Bill Stark, superin
tendent; and Anita Stark, secretary, plus many others,
saw the fruits of their year-long efforts come to a suc
cessful climax as over 37,000 fans attended the four-
day show7, May 29-June 1, and almost 600 horses
were entered. George Robertson was the efficient ring
master and John Marshall handled the announcing.
Jack Montgomery did an excellent job of tying the
seven Walking Horse classes.
The Walking Horse people were delighted to have
their own judge — someone who really knew howr a
Walking Horse should go. The classes were well filled,
and -were held in the indoor coliseum of State Fair
Park, Milwaukee. A huge, lively exhibitors’ party was
held Saturday night after the show, with good food
and dancing - plus dance contests - accompanied by
horse-talk until the wee hours.
SUN’S HOLIDAY, with Buddy Hugh up for the Leo
Baums’ River Tree Farm, had the crowd screaming
and made a thrilling show. He captured both the $300
Championship Stake and the Open Class with his big,
bold lick and three tremendous gaits. He also won a
leg on the VOICE Challenge Trophy. SUN’S HOLI
DAY continues to serve warning that he’s a top
contender for the big one at Shelbyville. Second in
the stake was the good-going INVASION’S BIG BOY,
who put on a fine show for Phil Krueger and Perma
nent Construction Company. Larry Pickhardt and GO
BOY’S W. F. SPECIAL were third for Bob Peterson.
Second to SUN’S HOLIDAY in the Open was an
other River Tree entry, SHADOW OF ICHABOD,
Leo Baum up, with INVASION’S BIG BOY third.
Nineteen were entered in the Amateur Class, and
