TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION HOLDS QUARTERLY MEETING Significant progress was noted at the quarterly meet ing of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ Associ ation held in Lewisburg, Tennessee on December 14, 1968. Prior to the regular board meeting, the Judges and Judging Committee met to discuss various com plaints and to review applications for renewal and new judge’s licenses. Present for the committee session were Senator J. T. Kelley, S. W. Beech, Chairman Jer ome Ryan, Steve Hill, and Captain E. A. Self. The committee heard testimony from Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Driver of Bowling Green, Kentucky, regarding an al leged violation committed by Mr. Driver during the show season, and withheld action pending further in vestigation. They approved all but one application for 1969 judge’s licenses. Among the various items of interest to come before the Board was a report from the Building Committee which noted that a low bid of approximately $235,000 had been received on construction of the new national headquarters building and that the contract had been let to the Ewing F. Cartwright Construction Company of Shelbyville, Tennessee. Construction is underway and is scheduled for completion on or about June 15, 1969. A complaint by Dr. and Mrs. Russell Myers of Wood bury, Tennessee was heard which alleged that two colts had been erroneously registered during 1968. Represented by legal counsel, Mrs. Myers stated that SPECIAL BARGAIN • kv - hawt of “BIOGRAPHY OF THE Tennessee TENNESSEE Walking Horst n the colts in question were by their stallion and that various irregularities were obvious in the discovery that they had been registered to another stallion. The board will launch an investigation of both sides of the issue and take whatever action is deemed necessary. The Board heard a report by Mr. George L. Lenox regarding his findings after a personal study of the records of the Association. His report led to a discus sion regarding the annual Breeders’ Association Futur ity and the method used to select judges for this show. Mr. Jerome Ryan, Manager of the 1968 show, ex plained the procedure for selecting judges and, while no changes were made in the procedure, an effort will be made to handle the ballots with greater care in the future. Mr. Lenox also recommended that the Board ap point a committee to study the prospects of improving the registration procedures to reduce the prospect of false registrations. The Board appointed Mr. S. W. Beech, Mr. Harlin Hayes and Mr. George Lenox to this committee. Senator J. T. Kelley, current President of the Asso ciation, made a report regarding proposed changes in rules and regulations for showing Tennessee Walk ing Horses for 1969. He noted that representatives of the Association had been working with the American Horse Show Association on proposed rules changes. All indications are that some significant changes are in order for the coming season. These changes are in regard to showring procedures, boots, and some other important aspects of this area of activity. Mr. S. W. Beech, Senator Kelley and Dr. DeWitt Owen will represent the Breeders’ Association at the annual American Horse Show Association meeting in Chicago in January. Attending the quarterly meeting were: Senator J. T. Kelley, Dr. DeWitt Owen, Dr. B. S. Henry, Mr. M. G. Williams, Mr. S. W. Beech, Mr. Roy Davis, Mr. Bob Guinn, Mr. M alcolm Bess, Mr. Jerome Ryan and Mr. Knox Bingham, legal counsel for the Association. The proceedings were recorded by Mrs. Sharon Bran don, Secretary-Treasurer of the Association. WALKING HORSE” t* mma - crun By Ben A. Green C. A.
