ARTICLE IN JANUARY VOICE LEADS TO ARREST OF SADDLE THIEVES
We recently received a phone call from a very happy George Holmes of Chardon , Ohio . Last month George sent us a letter regarding the theft of a considerable amount of valuable tack from his Walking Horse Farms . We printed his letter in the January issue of the VOICE and , lo and behold , the thieves sold some of this equipment to another VOICE subscriber in Rochester , Pennsylvania .
When Johnny and Robert Baker were approached by a used tack dealer , they thought they had gotten a good deal . . . until Robert read about the misfortune of Mr . Holmes . He immediately checked the equipment he had purchased and found the initials GHH burned on the leather . Knowing all the Holmes family , he immediately contacted George and returned the merchandise . After paying Mr . Baker what he had invested in this stolen merchandise , George Holmes went to the sheriff ’ s office and filed a report . A check of the incident led directly to a farrier ’ s assistant who is now in jail . If the state police office is correct , we may have uncovered a ring of tack thieves that has been active for over two years throughout the Northeast .
MORAL — If you ’ re going to steal from a VOICE subscriber . . . don ’ t sell the merchandise to another subscriber .
Dear Sir :
I wonder if you realize that in the article on MERRY LEGS it states she had four ( 4 ) stockings and the picture shows only three . Here you have a prime example of our breed and its wonderful registry , all they
are is a bunch of rattle brained half wits looking for a handout . Why don ’ t they keep '' Tennessee Green ” by firing the SLOPPY half witted office help and hiring some crackerjack office help to really put out some true registration papers for their phony breed .
I would like to see this letter in your magazine but I know I never will .
Sir :
AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER
After reading your vicious attack on our Breeders ’ Association I do not consider you an " innocent bystander .” In labeling this breed as " phony ” you have taken a stab at everyone in the Walking Horse business who is trying to correct the problems of the business , including myself and the VOICE . Obviously you have never spent a day in the office of the Breeders ’ Association in Lewisburg or you would not be referring to the office help in such a manner . Mrs . Sharon Brandon , Secretary-Treasurer of the Association , and Mrs . Gloria Rambo , her associate , are doing an excellent job with regard to registrations and office management . With a relatively small
staff they manage to effectively handle the multitude of daily tasks that confront them and they do it in the manner as prescribed by the Board of Directors .
The picture of MERRY LEGS F-4 to which you refer is an oil painting that was done quite a few years ago and perhaps the artist made a mistake . At any rate I feel that you were unjust in your criticism . It is true that we need to make some
changes at the Breeders ’ Association but " office help ” is not the place to start . If you are not a member of our association , then join it , and do something instead of being the anonymous " innocent bystander .”
