Mid-West with this outstanding victory at the Royal. Don and his horse made one of the best shows

The 71st Annual American Royal Horse Show was
held in Kansa> City, Missouri. October 17 through 25,
with Walking Horse classes being judged the last
four days. This show has always been a glamorous
affair, and this year was no exception, with large en
tries and an overflow crowd. The judge was the well-
known Vic Thompson of Shelbyville, Tennessee. Bob
Leu was show manager and Cy Taillon handled the
announcing. Ringmaster was A. D. White, who has
served in this capacity for many years. This show is
sponsored by the American Horse Shows Association
and the stewards were James H. Parker and Glen
C. Speakman.
The Walking Horse Stake was won by AIR GUN,
shown by Don Bolinger for George Logan, Nevada,
Missouri. This powerful black stallion turned in a
flawless performance to win the championship. Don
said he felt it was AIR GUN’s best show yet, and he
has made many good ones. AIR GUN also won the
Stallion-Gelding Class on Wednesday evening. A close
reserve was GUNSMOKE’S PRIDE, shown by Leonard
Willis and owned by Dean Marshall of Ipava, Illinois.
There were seventeen entries in the championship,
with eleven put through a demanding final workout.
The L&J Stables of Kansas City won four blue rib
bons. Maxine Johnson didn’t disappoint her many
fans by winning first in the Ladies Class on MAGIC
KNIGHT; first in the Missouri-Kansas Class on MID
NIGHT BLUE; first in the Missouri-Kansas Amateur
Rider Class on MIDNIGHT BLUE; and first in the
RKTIRKMKXT OF GU.NS.MOKE’S FIRST I.ADY - Jane Richardson retired
hci champion horse in an impressive ceremony at the Royal This great
