The junior competition was equally as good as the aged classes, with the Junior Champion, DELIGHT’S PERFECTION, being ridden by Mar­ vin Wilson for Senator Eugene Hol­ ley of Augusta, Georgia. Wink Groov­ er won the stallion and gelding pre­ liminary earlier in the week on THE HUSTLER, a fine competitor owned by the Groover-Spears Stables of Etowah, Tennessee. The Junior Mare Class went to Doug Wolaver and HANDSHAKER’S LADY KIM for owner Candace Williams of Fayette­ ville, North Carolina. Reserve in the championship went to LADY KIM and Doug, with the number three spot going to Paul Smith and DE­ LIGHT’S DEBUTANTE, owned by Roy Thornton of Palmetto, Florida. The Three-Year-Old Championship for the 1969 Mobile Show went to an exciting new contender named EB­ ONY’S BLACK MARKET. This pow­ erful black stallion is owned by Billy Hale of Gallatin, Tennessee, and was ridden to this most impressive victory by Wink Groover. Wink won both the championship and the pre­ liminary on this horse. The Three- Year-Old Mare Class was won by Hershel Talley riding ACE’S BETTY for Crawford & Davis of Montgom­ ery, Alabama. Rounding out the top three awards in the stake were Jim­ my Ellis and EBONY’S MASTER COPY placing second for W. R. Mit­ chell of Mobile, with Hershel and his horse placing third. The two-y ear-old division saw three separate and worthy winners. The preliminary filly class was won by Don Bell and BLACK ELEGANCE for owner Bill Burns of Huntsville, Alabama. The stallion and gelding preliminary was captured by Wink Groover and DEMOCRAT COPY for GLL Farms of Collierville, Tennes­ December, 1969 see. In the championship, Jack Moor­ man and LIVING LEGEND were not to be denied as they won the title in impressive fashion. This po­ tentially great horse is owned by Whiteway Farms of Forest, Missis­ sippi. The reserve award went to Wink and DEMOCRAT COPY. The amateur competition featured four events and three individual win­ ners. The Amateur Championship was won by CLOWN’S SPUR and Lloyd Wood, following their impress­ ive victory in the Men’s Amateur Class. The Ladies Amateur Class was won by RAMBLER’S SATIN DOLL and Airs. Newton Turrentine of Greenville, South Carolina, while the Open Amateur Class was swept by SHADOW’S MOTION MAN and Lindsey Apel. Reserve in the champ­ ionship was Mrs. Turrentine’s SATIN DOLL. The juvenile division offered ex­ hibitors three classes and the Gary Edwards Stable of Albany, Georgia won two of the three events with different horses. The Juvenile 13-17 Class was won by HIGH MACK’S MAJORETTE and Carla McClelland, while her stablemate MIDNIGHT DYNAMITE and Debbie Gerst tied third. In the Juvenile Championship, Debbie and her horse won the honors with Carla and MAJORETTE finish­ ing a close second. The Juvenile 12 and L'nder Class was won by MR. TWIST and Jim Haygood, a talented team from Florence, Alabama The Pony Championship of Mobile was won for the second year in a row by the strong entry of Priscilla OXE OF FIVE - Wink Groover receives one of ihe five blue ribbons he won at Mobile.
