and should make a welcome contribution to Walking Horse activity in the state. As manager-trainer at Shadow Valley Farms, Mike will be responsible for managing the breeding program for GO BOY’S IN VASION, MIDNIGHT BEAU and SUNDOWN S. He will also have charge of training and caring for colts belonging to Shadow Valley Farms and other owners from different parts of the country. Mike got off to a good start recently as he captured the blue in the North Carolina State Championship Horse Show with INVASION’S CHALLENGE. They hope to produce colts that can compete with the best in halter classes and come on to make top show horses. In discussing the prospects for the future, Dr. John son said, "I believe we are very fortunate in having a young man of Mike’s calibre in the Carolinas, and I have great hopes for the future of the breed in this part of the country. We have tried to obtain some excellent stallions for breeding purposes and, with Mike’s help, we should see some World Champions coming out of Carolina-bred and Carolina-trained hor ses.” He further stated, "The Carolinas are fortunate in having some of the finest horses, trainers and own ers in the country, and together we should be able to prove that we can compete with the best.” The Shadow Valley Farm is a beautiful three-hundred- acre spread that has been prepared and laid out spe cifically for brood mares. One of the largest Walking Horse operations on the East Coast, they are making every effort to provide excellent care for the mares brought to the farm for breeding purposes.
