Burnette and Perry, and has all the earmarks of being a top contender for Championship honors this year. Watch for him at the Celebration! Preach Fleming made a fine show on SHADOW’S DELIGHT to win the Two-Year-Old Stallion & Geld ing event for R. D. Keene of Orlando. This is the second top performance he has made in a short-lived career this season, and he will certainly bear watch ing at the Shelbyville classic. Bud Seaton came on strong in the Aged Mare class with EBONY’S DOLLY, a fine mare in any competi tion. Riding for Billy Hale, Mr. Seaton showed the mare to perfection and proved that she has merit for World Championship honors. Also worthy of mention are: LABEL’S DANCER, with Jimmy Waddell riding to victory in the Two-Year- Old Filly Class; GO BOY’S BLACK BARON with Jan Wright up in the Juvenile Class; HANDSHAKER’S DEBUTANT and HANDSHAKER’S LADY KIM, with Douglas Wolaver riding in the Three-Year-Old Mare Class and the Junior Mare Class respectively; and SCATMAN’S KITTY CAT with Pam Hawkersmith in the Walking Pony Class. These were the blue-ribbon winners in a great late-season show. Mr. Rowland did a fine job of judging and certainly stands as one of our finer men in this capacity. SENSATIONAL SHADOW —Stallion & Gelding winner at annual Belfast show GO BOV'S BLACK ANGEL—Impressive winner of Mare Class. Belfast. Tenn. ACE’S SENSATION—Stallion & Gelding winner at Pulaski ’Red Carpet’ Show. BELFAST, TENNESSEE AUGUST 1, 1969 Judge — Paul Smith Usually considered one of the last pre-Celebration shows of any importance, Belfast was no disappoint ment this year. An extra-large crowd turned out to see some of the nation’s finest vie for top honors in the last big showdown before the World Champion ships later this month. Starting with the Stallion & Gelding Class we can certainly state that SENSATIONAL SHADOW made himself known as a potential threat to Stake Class honors as he turned in a fine performance to take the blue in a good class with Wallace Brandon riding. Also worthy of note as a stake class contender was "The MARE” . . . with Charlie Bobo turning in his final performance prior to the Celebration. In the pre liminary workout Mr. Bobo was content to show just enough to stay on top; however, in the workout be tween GO BOY’S BLACK ANGEL and EBONY’S DOLLY, another fine mare, he was pushed to prove his horse. It was a great workout with both horses turning in sterling performances. DOLLY was ridden by Bud Seaton. The ever-popular GOLDFINGER was adjudged win ner of the Amateur Stallion & Gelding Class, with Lindsey Apel riding. He looked like his old self and won the class handily. It was GUNSMOKE’S FIRE BALL that took home the blue in a top Three-Year- Old Stallion & Gelding Class as Ronnie Spears showed his tremendous World Champion to the bipartisan crowd. This is one of the horses that the crowds came to see and Ronnie didn’t let them down. He is a solid contender for Celebration honors. One of the big surprises of the late show season was the emergence of GO BOY’S BLACK ROOSTER with Sam Paschal riding. Now a junior horse, the big black stallion has taken readily to "Mr. Sam’s” way of go ing and shows a great deal of potential for the Junior Championship this year. He was pushed hard in what a lot of observers felt was one of the hottest classes in the Besfast Show, winning on an excellent pass on the final reverse. Another standout of the Belfast Show was DELIGHTS GTO, a late-season "comer” with George Livingston riding. This fancy sorrel stallion has been considered 85 August, 1969 (Continued on Page 157)
