Mr. Wilson and GO BOY’ S MISSING HEIR being interviewed by reporters from San Diego, California
and the San Diego Union.
Pictured is the saddlebag with information concerning the coast-to-coast trip.
since trailering the duo to Charleston the previous summer. The Corums and Dan stayed Saturday night at the Horseshoe Motel in Casa Grande. On Sunday, Wilson and the big stallion headed for Gila Bend.
During the trip the pair endured every kind of weather and condition, from sub-tropical swamps in South Carolina to snowy mountain passes in New Mexico. At one of these passes, they had to wait until snow plows broke open four-foot drifts. Generally Dan would settle down for the night after thirty or more miles and ten to twelve hours in the saddle.
Getting feed for the horse was a problem, since Dan was unable to carry it with him. Often he would buy a hundred-pound sack of grain and leave it after only one or two feedings.
Corum, who owns a lumber yard in Louisville, is picking up the tab for Wilson’ s expenses, which are expected to total about S5,000. Corum says GO BOY’ S MISSING HEIR is exceptional in disposition, size, endurance, intelligence, and in his easy ground-covering gaits.
The memorable journey ended on the same day and place as our first manned trip to the moon: December 27, 1968 in the Pacific Ocean. The return trip to Louisville, Kentucky was via truck, provided by Corum.
