TRAINERS HAVE BUSY
SCHEDULE IN ADDITION
TD SHDWING HDRSES
AT THE CELEBRATION
The round-the-clock schedule kept
by most trainers during the ten days
of the Celebration proved to be try
ing indeed. In addition to the usual
routine of working and showing hor
ses and trying to assist customers
and prospects with their buying and
selling, most professionals had some
other important duties to attend to.
One of the unexpected duties that
involved the majority of trainers was
that of spearheading a drive to raise
funds for one of their colleagues who
suffered a great loss. Members of
the Walking Horse Trainers Associ
ation headed up an official fund-rais
ing program (see picture) that even
tually led to a presentation of several
thousand dollars to Jack Warren,
whose barn burned on September 1
during the evening performance (see
story on page 67).
Large containers were placed at
strategic locations on the show-
grounds and mention was made dur
ing the show that the trainers were
supporting this drive to raise funds
for Mr. Warren.
There were several other functions
during the week that also proved
profitable for the trainers, including
a lunch meeting on Sunday, Septem
ber 1, sponsored by the Trainers
Association. The meeting was at
tended by over one hundred mem
bers and associate members, and
everyone thoroughly enjoyed the
chicken dinner (see picture) and re
freshments. One of the highlights of
the meeting was an open discussion
with Celebration officials regarding
several issues under question by the
trainers. They were particularly in
terested in the rules having to do
with entries in the Two-Year-Old Stal
lion Classes (A and B) and the
procedure for checking horses.
