fire destroys JACK warren START PC DURING CELEBRATION ; 21 HORSES LOST
Tragedy struck during the Celebration as fire swenr the Jack Warren Stables in Spring Hill , Tennessee killing 21 show horses , 18 of whom were entered in the Celebration . The fire occurred Sunday , September 1 at approximately 8:15 PM . P ber
The barn was completely destroyed as was a small house near the barn . Only Jack ’ s wife was on the farm at the time of the blaze and she did not discover it until too late . Jack had 46 horses on the farm at the time of the blaze but some were at pasture or in the other barn He was informed of the blaze by emergency phone call during the Celebration and left immediately as word of the fire swept the showgrounds . Included in the horses killed were five horses owned by W . T . Baynard . Mr . Baynard lost three highly regarded horses in MY SUNDUST SENSATION , PIS TOL PETE and THUNDERBALL . Also destroyed in the fire was the highly-ranked PERFECTION ’ S SHA DOW S . owned by Molly Tallent . This horse had tied third the night before the fire in the Ladies Owner- Amateur Class at the Celebration . Jack has already started on the road back and he was full of praise and thanks for the wonderful help of everyone in the horse business . Jack has bought the Triple T Farm in Lewisburg and has already moved his stock . Jack also informed us that all of the people who lost horses planned on replacing them in the near future . The cause of the blaze has not been determined and there appears little hope that it ever will be .

TABULATION OF CELEBRATION RESULTS
Last year the VOICE tabulated the results ofthe 1967 Celebration and found that fourteen trainers took all the blue ribbons in saddle classes- t is ra ironic that fourteen training facilities did the same thing in 32 saddle classes in the 1968 Celebration , but many of the names differ ( check your tember issue of the VOICE ). Some of these Wues J ere won by the trainers and some by Amateur or riders out of their stables .
September / October , 1968

Participation of states plays an important part in the National Celebration . Over the years one of the most frequent complaints around the grounds has been , " Tennessee is the only state that ever wins anything .” This year there were entries from 28 states and one foreign country . The owners took ribbons back to 25 of these states and to the one foreign country . One must take into consideration that owners from many states have horses in and around the Tennessee area , so these results are taken from the owners ’ names and addresses , not the rider or stable name . Horses were entered from Alabama , Arkansas , California , East Africa , Florida , Georgia , Illinois , Indiana , Iowa , Kentucky , Louisiana , Michigan , Minnesota , Mississippi , Missouri , New Jersey , New York , North Carolina , Ohio , Oklahoma , Oregon , Pennsylvania , South Carolina , Tennessee , Texas , Virginia , Washington , West Virginia and Wisconsin . The states of Alabama , Mississippi , Missouri , North Carolina , Ohio , South Carolina , Tennessee and Texas were the blue ribbon winners . Of the above list of fourteen trainers , eight of them have their stables in Tennessee ; three in Alabama ; two in Mississippi ; and one in North Carolina .
Buy a program next year and compare it with the judges ’ cards as listed in the VOICE . You may find some mistakes ( as noted on Judges ’ Cards from the Celebration and in our magazine - results not checked for clerical errors ) but it is interesting research .
FIRST AWARD FROM NATIONAL BRIDLE SHOP GOES TO DONALD PASCHAL
In short ceremonies at the Donald Paschal Stables immediately after the Stake Class on Saturday night , Mr . Donald Paschal of Woodbury , Tennessee received a beautiful new saddle from Mr . J . Lester Neil , representing the National Bridle Shop , Lewisburg , Tennessee . Assisting in the presentation was Mr . Bob Beech , manager of the well-known saddlery , who was instrumental in setting up the presentation . Mr . Beech said , " We feel that the trainers have made a genuine contribution to the growth of the Tennessee Walking
Horse business and through their efforts our business has also increased over the years . The presentation of
an annual award of this nature is just our small way of letting these men know that we appreciate their
cooperation and business .” Mr . Neil further added , " Mr . Donald Paschal has been a good customer for
many years and he is a fine recipient for the First Annual National Bridle Saddle Award .”
