■nlSOH AW breeding HENGEN * LENOX 5flLE5 i i ( I | i HENGEN-LENOX SALE ATTRACTS BUYERS AND LOOKERS IN MASS The Second Annual Sale of CARBON COPY Colts, now named the Hengen-Lenox Sale, was second only to the Celebration itself in attendance and attraction. Held for the first time in the permanent new sales pavilion of their farm on the Lewusburg Highway, the sale attracted a crowd estimated to be well over two thousand spectators and prospective buyers. The sale was managed by Mrs. George L. Lenox, assisted by Mrs. Ed Ezell with Auctioneer Eddie Bryant behind the mike. The ground men were headed by Mr. John ny Jones and they all did an excellent job of keeping the sale going. The actual bidding was delayed somewhat while the crowd moved in. They were treated to an exhibition of DEMOCRAT COPY, the syndicate yearling colt being trained by Jack Johnson. He was also ridden several turns around the hall by Lee Lenox. They al so had an opportunity to see another syndicate colt named COPY’S ROAN ALLEN, a truly outstanding black roan by CARBON COPY and out of the great mare, MY WILDFLOWER. We learned that twenty- three shares of this fine weanling have already been sold at two hundred dollars a share. The sale lived up to all expectations and the aver age for the twenty-eight entries was $2,404.00, as compared to $1,993.00 for last year. The top colt of the sale was CAESAR, a black stud that brought $5,500. He was consigned by Mr. Wink Groover and was purchased by Sugarloaf Farms, Atlanta, Georgia. 66 Those colts topping $2,000 were: MASTER COPY GLL (83,100), consigned by GLL Farms, bought by Mr. F. M.
