TWO-YEAR-OLD WALKING HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP STAKE
Ronnie Spears and GUNSMOKE’ S FIREBALL went after the title with a great ride and came away with the nod of the judges and the roar of the 25,237 final night horse fans. Total attendance for the 1968 show was close to 14,000 below last year’ s crowd but still went over the 100,000 mark with 109,457 people attending during the nine nights. Reserve award went to Dickie Pate and EBONY’ S OLD CHARTER. Dickie and his horse were back in form after an off night earlier in the week and he provided a strong challenge to Ronnie and his horse. JUDGES’ CHOICE and MISTER REE. earlier two-year-old preliminary class winners, did not show back in the championship.
