The second highlight of the Barn Party was the introduction of the newest horses. Leading the parade was the well-known CRIMSON TIDE, formerly owned by Captain E. A. Self of Mobile, Ala., who was introduced for the first time as an amateur horse. A. Hobgood III, Smithfield, NC, is the new owner of this seven-year-old bay stud whose outstanding record of stake wins under Wink Groover and Sam Paschal make him a most likely candidate for a similar record in the amateur field.
November, 1968
THE CONGRESSMAN, a coming Junior horse, was purchased for Mr. R. E. Fields during Celebration time and Dude’ s progress with this bold bay stud is proof that he can pick horses with that ' special something.’
As can be expected after his outstanding work with the two-year-old filly COPY’ S RECORD, Duke is loaded with coming two-year-olds and has more on the way. Four from this group on display were: DELIGHT’ S RED SHADOW( bySUN’ S DELIGHT out of a SHADOW mare), who placed fourth in the Celebration Futurity for new owner Wm Medlin of Raleigh; STETELY’ S KNIGHT, a jet-black fme-built stud colt owned by A. Hobgood III, Smithfield; MIKE’ S DE LIGHT, a sorrel stud colt owned and raised by the F. M. Wilkersons, Roxboro; and a new addition for the Colonial Horses, Boyd W. Elliott, Raleigh, owner, a dark bay stud colt by GO BOY’ S INVASION recently purchased from Vic Thompson.
We would also like to remind North Carolina enthusiasts that the 1968 World Grand Champion GO BOY’ S ROYAL HEIR will be retired at the Montgomery Championship Show. We are proud that this fine champion is owned by Carolina people, and we wish them well with their stallion in the future.
