(Continued from page 3) stallion was to be used as a public relations representative of the breed. On September 14, 1963, just two weeks after the Celebration, SUN’S DELIGHT was formally retired at the Kentucky State Fair Horse Show in Louisville, Kentucky. Showing to a packed house of 1 8,000 people in the coliseum, trainer Sam Paschal and SUN’S DELIGHT put on an ex hibition of Tennessee Walking Horse excellence for the elite of the Gaited Horse world. Needless to say, they were greatly impressed. Three months later the finest of the Walking Horse breed was pre sented to literally millions of Ameri cans as he made his way along the eleven-mile route of the Parade of Roses in Pasadena, California. For several years invitations had been received by owners of World Champ ions to take part in this parade but Mr. Escue and Mr. Paschal were the first to accept. It was no small task to get SUN’S DELIGHT to California and, as one would expect, when he made his appearance on the TV screens of the viewing public on New Year’s Day, the Escue family was justly proud. Making the trip with DELIGHT were Fray Escue and his daughter Nancy, then a twelve-year-old, who both rode Walk ing Horses in the parade. SUN’S DELIGHT returned to Mid dle Tennessee to the City View Sta bles of Sam Paschal to await a de cision as to his breeding program. In the spring of 1964, he was moved to Harlinsdale Farms in Franklin, Tenn. to begin his breeding career. The next person to become actively involved in the life of SUN’S DE LIGHT was Mr. Hariin Hayes, gen eral manager of Harlinsdale Farms. Since standing at this noted breed ing facility, SUN’S DELIGHT has become one of the most prolific stal lions of all time. He possesses the unique ability to impart his own outstanding qualities to a large per centage of his get and his first crop of colts produced the World Champ ion Two-Year-Old and the Reserve Champion of 1967, as well as a host of other outstanding colts that were shown throughout t he season. The response from breeders throughout the country has been excellent and the book on SUN’S DELIGHT’S breeding services has been well fill ed since early spring. "What is it aboutSUN’S DELIGHT that makes him such an outstand ing breeder?” We have asked many people this question and it appears that he is producing colts that have the bone structure and general phys ical makeup to can more easily per form the gaits that we require these days. His colts are generally built right, with a short back, crooked hind legs, and natural walking ability. Most of them are hard to faul as far as conformation is concerned, and they appear to be intelligent and will ing. Colorwise, SUN’S DELIGHT has produced an abundance of chestnuts and dark sorrels with a good share of blacks and bays. Naturally he gets his share of lesser horses —they can’t all be show horses — but the percentages show that SUN’S DE LIGHT is one of the most potent and dominant breeders in many a year. What about the future? It appears that SUN’S DELIGHT is destined to etch his name in the record books along with the other greats of the Tennessee Walking Horse World. As a show horse and now as a sire . . . he is truly the reigning "Premier Sire of the Walking Horse Breed.” W ith H artford L ivestock I nsurance Co.
