say he is much better this year. SUN’ S LASSIE sure seems to pass her ability on. Her two-year-old colt, GEMINI’ S SHADOW, is a black stallion by BLACK ANGEL’ S MACK K who is by two world champions. This colt shows extreme natural ability and looks like most two-year-olds do at the end of the season. We also saw her yearling filly by GO BOY’ S SHAD OW. She seemed to be about perfect.
I received a very nice letter from Claude Laffoon of Houston, Missouri, telling about their horses. They specialize more in pleasure Walking Horses and they have a number of two-year-olds in the barn. Miss Linda Spurgeon of Houston has a two-year-old MER RY BOY blue roan filly in training. She is doing quite well and Linda is planning on showing her this season. Another colt they are working is a fine-looking GO BOY stud owned by Jerry Kirksey. This is a big colt that is starting well and showing much promise. Mr. and Mrs. Laffoon have two line-bred MERRY BOY colts that are doing quite well. Another colt that is looking real good is a two-year-old by the Laffoons’ MERRY BOYS SHAMROCK. This is the first colt from this stallion, and she is owned by Mrs. Laffoon.

BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION INITIATES 4-H CLUB PROMOTION PROGRAM
Pictured at the left is a full-page ad that ran in the April issue of the National 4-H Club News, a flne pube
Ucation that reaches the nations 4-H Club leaders and members. This organization has tremendous prosS nects as an outlet for Tennessee Walking Horses and the " horse projects” within the organization are des cribed as being the most popular and fastest-growing phase of club activity.
Our Breeders’ Association has initiated a program that is long overdue and we congratulate them on this giant step. As part of the program they have also prepared a fifteen-page full-color brochure that is described as an " introduction to the World’ s Greatest Show and Pleasure Horse whose background and heritage dates back over 175 years. The personality traits and characteristics, intelligence, popularity and many other interesting attributes are fully described i ______. mu xirifVi thp rarfi. pracpfnl hpantu *.!.•
unique breed.” The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ Association cannot do the whole job, however. They must have the complete support of everyone in the business. Now is the time to make yourself known to the
4-H Club leaders in your area. Express your willingness to work with these fine youngsters and to assist
them in obtaining a registered Tennessee Walking Horse for their " project.” Other breed enthusiasts have done an excellent job of making brood mares, breeding services, colts and pleasure horses readily
available to 4-H Club members. The overall scope of this program is staggering. According to official reports from the United States
Department of Agriculture, the 4-H Horse Project grows at a rate of 10 to 20 % each year. In 1964
there were approximately 120,000 members actively engaged in the horse program. In 1967 well over
146,000 youngsters had entered the program. The overall program is extremely well organized and official project literature for the club horse program is excellent. According to a release made in 1966, the most important needs of the horse program are in three categories. First, more teaching materials such as movies, slides, and other visual aids are necessary.
Second, more leaders and teachers are needed in the area of horse programs. Third, national sponsors to
provide scholarships and other appropriate recognition for outstanding work in the horse program are needed.
Our congratulations to the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ Association for undertaking this most important project. Remember, in order to achieve maximum success, they must have your support on this and other promotional programs that they plan to develop.
For your additional information, the 4-H Club embraces over 2,225,000 youngsters with over 450,000 men and women involved as volunteer leaders. There are over 14,000 professional Extension workers- Federal, State and County— who are also devoted to the 4-H Club. What a market for Tennessee Walking Horses! We recently learned that, as of April 30, the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ Association in Lewis hurg, Tennessee has received over 6,000 inquiries as a direct result of this advertisement.
