MISSOURI WALKING HORSE NEWS

Missouri horse activities seem to be booming. I enjoyed visiting with everyone at Dr. Baney’ s sale and at Joe Webb ' s sale and show. These two outings seem to have stirred up the usual enthusiasm of getting ready for the first show.
George Blades, trainer for Blades-McCrosky Stables of Billings, Missouri, is working hard to ready his horses for the show ring. He has a nice black twoyear-old filly by ROGERS MERRY GO BOY out of a SUN’ S GO BOY mare for Mr. and Mrs. Orville Ross of Mr. Vernon. This fine-made filly shows lots of promise. George also has another good prospect in IM- PALA’ S SON, a bay two-year-old stud owned by Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Odell of Hutchinson, Kansas. This colt is by THE I MPA LA out of a GO BOY mare.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Potts of Republic have two twoyear-olds in training here by their good stallion, MER RY DUST ' S SHADOW, which was shown under the name of NIGHT TRAIN. NIGHT TRAIN’ S CABOOSE is a big loose-going sorrel colt.
MOONLIGHT GAiMBLER, a pretty gray three-yearold stud, is owned by Mr. and Mrs. George McCrosky of Republic. He is by MIDNIGHT SECRET and is a full brother to MY SECRET SUN. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pickering have two outstanding stallions in training- KEETER’ S PINUP and SUN DUST RHYTHM are popular winners in horse show circles.
George has two more good prospects in the twoyear-old bracket. EBONY’ S BLACK SHADOW is a three-year-old black stud owned by Mr. and Mrs G. H. Holloway of Neosho. John Whitten of Carthage recently sent George a sorrel filly by SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS. He says this filly could just be the one1
I recently had a nice visit with the senior and junior Bill Maacks of the Maack Stables at Bolivar. They have a newly expanded barn full of good horses. Bill is working three two-year-olds that are excellent prospects as well as excellently bred individuals. SILVER MIST is a beautiful roan filly by SILVER SAM; she is owned by Howard Northcutt of Buffalo, and has the looks and motion of a winner. Another roan fiih, GO BOYS TEAR DROP, is a showy, handsome full sister to CARESSES GO PRIDE, Irma Scott’ s outstanding juvenile mare( a blue roan five-year-old that was beaten only once last year). TEAR DROP hv Irma’ s father, John Scott. Ed Sanniv,. has ' an impressive stud colt by his stallion, HOGErS
merry GO BOY. The Maacks have an abundance of good three-VPa. oil horses. SAM’ S CELEBRITY by SILVER SAmT a sharp-looking sorrel owned by Marilyn Maack. EB
ONY’ S RAMBLER, a sensational black stallion that can really walk on is owned by Don Cook of SioUx Falls, S. D. This is the colt that won the big Sprin * field show last year as a two-year-old. LULU is ' bay mare that had an exceptional record as a twcv year-old: she won four blues last season for owner Max Atkinson of Olean. Another three-year-old fifiv owned by Jasper Trimble of Jefferson City will make her initial appearance this year. This black filly is just barely started, but is most promising. Ed Sappington has a black stallion by his ROGERS GO BOY stallion in this age bracket that is better than ever. He has a beautiful head. LEARS MUSTANG, owned by Lionel Lear, is a black three-year-old by MIDNIGHT SUN. After a winter’ s work he really looks great, and wili be shown by his owner this season.
Barkley Brock has TOP GUN in training here. This black gelding is working to perfection. I also saw a nice yearling colt by Mr. Brock’ s GUNSMOKE’ S SUN. I believe this is his first colt and it looks as if he will be quite a breeding horse. SPARTACUS is a good three-year-old of Brock’ s that I saw.
Southwest Missouri has suffered a great loss with the death of John Baker, a prominent horseman and breeder in our area. Mr. Baker, of Hollister, passed away as the result of successive strokes.
I was proud of the fact that our Missouri trainers were well-represented at the trainers’ meeting in Shelbyville, Tennessee on March 15 and 16. Among the trainers attending from Missouri were my husband, Sonny Scrivner of Rogersville, Paul Thompson of West Plains, Don Bolinger of California, Louis Sloan of Dixon, Georgie Blades of Billings, Floyd Posenke of Springfield, Bill Maack, Jr. of Bolivar, Ray Green and LeRoy Stoneking.
Chuck Graves of Strafford was visiting the other day and said that he has an exceptionally nice colt at Joe Webb’ s barn in Searcy, Arkansas. This black stallion, GRAVES’ PERFECTION, is by RODGERS PERFEC TION and is doing extremely well for a two-year-old. The Graves family also have another young horse that they have shown and have done very well with. He is D BOY, a four-year-old chestnut by DANNY GO BOY. There are a number of terrific colts by this stallion that were bred before the stallion went to Middle Tennessee to stand at Suits Me Farms. D BO’ i has won a number of blues and they are expecting him to be improved even more this year.
Bonjour Construction Company, Inc. has a pair of really outstanding stallions out of the great old show mare, SUN’ S LASSIE. This mare was shown by Chester Beshears for four years and was practically unbeatable. Her first colt, RED SHADOW by GO BOY’ S SHADOW, sold for a considerable sum. SHADOW S HEIR B is a three-year-old black stallion out of LAb- SIE by MIDNIGHT AIRE. We saw this colt work and there are few horses that have all the show-horse qualities he has. He tied second last year at the M * s souri State Fair in a terrific class of colts and they
