a MIDNIGHT SUN mare. The first dam of this horse is by LITTLE MERRY BOY and the second dam is by LAST CHANCE. The breeding shows, and this horse can really " do that thing.” Gene Castleberry of Benton, Ky. has a good aged gelding by GO BOY
AGAIN. Sally Beaumont’ s ROAD RUNNER is coming along very well and Dr. Beaumont recently bought the good KEENES GO BOY that Dot had planned to keep. This little horse is out of a MIDNIGHT SUN mare and is a show horse. Ira Paradise of Nashville and Winston Biggs of Pulaski each own very good EBONY MASTERPIECE fillies. Frank Hutton of Clarksville is the proud owner of a good-operating DELIGHT filly. Tom Jones of Nashville has several good horses with Dot and is especially watching two youngsters. He has a SUN DUST JUBILEE filly and a SUN DUST colt. If you want to spend some pleasant hours, stop and see Dot and Mabel Warren.
We also stop and see our friend James Rowland and are pleased that he will be standing the two outstanding stallions, SUN’ S BLACK MAGIC LM and SHADOW’ S REFLECTION. James’ reputation and
ability with the youngsters should do much for these stallions. James has William Sneed working two outstanding aged horses for him. A JET PARADE stallion and a MIDNIGHT SUN gelding are for sale and they will be in new hands before long. William has
them in show shape now.
SOUTHBROOK STABLES
The Southbrook Stables’ horses are stabled at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. Neil Clark is the new trainer for this stable, which is owned by E. C. Nichols. Neil is working 18 horses. Since he hasn’ t been at Southbrook too long he couldn’ t say too much
about the horses, but was nice enough to ride a few real nice ones. He has a three-year-old horse by
EBONY7 MASTERPIECE that is owned by Clarence Phillips and Sons that should make some people take another look. Neil only has three two-year-olds, but in the three- and four-year-old classes he is well supplies. It’ s nice to have Neil and his family in East Tennessee, and we hope he has the best of luck this year. Visitors are always welcome, so go by and see Neil work some horses.
BRIDLEWOOD STABLES
Bridlewood Stables of Morris, Alabama, now in its second year of operation, is buzzing with activity as show season is just around the corner. Wayne Luna
is working some good horses and plans to have them ready when the gates open. SUN OF MASTERPIECE, a four-year-old sorrel stud owned by Shirley and Jimmy Jolly of Fultondale, had a very successful season last year, and, from all indications, he will be one of the good ones out this year. MR. SOCIETY, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Claude Walls of Hayden, Alabama, has the looks and ability it takes and will be a contender
in the three-year-old classes this season. MIDNIGHT JET STAR, a big black aged stud owned by Coker
Lathram of Cullman, keeps getting better. He goes around the ring in a big way, shaking his head every
lick. Tommy Duchock’ s blue roan mare, DAWN’ S BLUE ANGEL, is being primed for competition in the aged mare class and is coming along beautifully. ALLEY CAT, a coming four-year-old gelding owned by Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Barger of Morris, has been
26 tuned up and is ready to go! Gail Chambers will be showing him in ladies’ amateur classes and daughter Micki will show some in juvenile classes. He is a high headed sorrel roan horse that tied well last season a * a three-year-old. JIM’ S GO BOY C, a four-year-old black stud owned by Jim Corley of Birmingham, has made real progress during the winter months and should be ready to make quite a show. MACK K’ S GYPSY MAN is getting along beautifully. He is a white coming three-year-old stud owned by Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Sandlin of Warrior. SETTING SUN’ S GLO D, a sorrel mare owned by Mr. and Mrs. Larry Doss of Morris, is fat, slick and pretty. Larry will be showing her in amateur classes. Mr. Emmett Cavett’ s MASTERPIECE filly is looking mighty good, as are some colts owned by Jim Corley and some of Wayne’ s
own colts. Visitors are always welcome at Bridlewood Stables,
just fifteen miles north of Birmingham at Morris.
SUN CREST STABLES
In June of 1965, years of planning, wishing, and enthusiastic aspiration were culminated by the completion of Sun Crest Stable. This fine facility is located on Highway 79, about one mile north of Clarksville, Tennessee. Owners Charles Massey and Bobby Long can be justly proud of this establishment, for the modern structure is designed to produce top Walking stock. The main barn is 300 feet long with forty-four stalls. A push-button automatic walker and an allweather wash rack enable Sun Crest grooms to more competently complete their jobs.
A plush lounge is walled in beautiful oak paneling and the floor is of sparkling white ceramic tile chip. A Walking Horse silhouette design of black tile chip is inlaid in the center of the floor. Ribbons, trophies, and pictures grace the wall while couches and chairs are provided for relaxation. The king of the tanbark around Sun Crest is MID NIGHT MOSHUN. This regal ebony stallion is by MIDNIGHT SUN and out of LOTT A MERRY MOTION by MERRY GO BOY. He will stand at stud for one hundred dollars to registered mares.
As far as entries for the 1968 show season are concerned, Sun Crest Stable should make a strong bid to bring home a truckful of blue ribbons. The versatile ROYAL SHADOW BOY, owned by John Manning of Clarksville, was widely shown and tied very well throughout 1967. This chestnut gelding, by GO BOY’ S
SHADOW and out of a MILLER’ S WILSON ALLEN mare, has won in juvenile, amateur, and stake classes
throughout the state. Sun Crest will be represented in Walking Pony classes this year by SUN’ SSUNLIGHTER. By MIDNIGHT
SUN and out of a MERRY BOY mare, this black stud is marked by a perfect blaze and four stockings, and he can really scat when the running walk is called. He was guided to his 1967 victories by Bob Manning and his owner, C. C. Freeman of Cadiz, Kentucky. Many mare classes this year will witness the appearance of GO BOY’ S GREATER GLORY. This beau tiful chestnut sorrel mare has shared the Celebration spotlight for the past two years with her vivacious owner-rider, Amelia Allen. This perfect team has cap tured the blue ribbon in the walking seat equitation
