Harlan Prosser of Shelbyville , Illinois recently purchased a MERRY GO BOY stallion who is coming along by leaps and bounds under Ken ’ s guidance .
Kenneth will be showing a flashy going sorrel SUN DUST gelding and several others — good ones —• will be making their ring debuts this year . All the horse owners at Riddle Hill Stables are extremely eloquent in their praise of Ken Jones . Ken ’ s wife , Lovella , and two youngsters , Connie , 9 , and Randy , 11 , all share his love for the Walking Horse .
FRANK CLARK STABLES
Harold Kilpatrick , trainer at the Clark Stables in Arab , Alabama , is working about fifteen of the thirty horses at the barn . They are justly proud of their stud , SUN ’ S HERO by MIDNIGHT SUN . Both Clark boys show : Randy riding an age mare in Juvenile and Age Mare Classes and Steve showing HANDSHAK­ ER ’ S PERFECTION , a five-year-old Walking Pony . Harold Kilpatrick is having a successful season with HELLO DOLLY , a four-year-old mare .
COLEMAN STABLES
For a really enjoyable trip , visit Hamner Cobbs and Wynn Coleman in Greensboro . Ask Hamner to show you his many acres of pasture and his lovely fishing lakes . On this beautiful pasture graze sheep , cattle , ponies and horses . Twenty-five or thirty lovely broodmares , many with foals , and fifteen registered ponies is a sight long to be remembered .
Wynn Coleman has three outstanding Walking Horse stallions . PERFECTIONS HILLTOPPER , a four-yearold stud bred by Dr . Porter Rodgers , is a three-quarter brother to the ENTERTAINER . With Obia Spencer aboard , HILLTOPPER deserves one word : " Great ”! The great SPURS CLOWN makes his home in the Coleman Stable . The third stud is DUKE OF MID­ NIGHT , a very handsome horse . Wynn has ten yearling fillies and twelve stud colts sired by CLOWN and DUKE OF MIDNIGHT . There are thirty-odd broodmares , all of which are registered . This place is a veritable horse lovers ’ paradise .
HARTNETT STABLES
We recently learned from seventeen-year-old Chrissie Hartnett that the One aged stallion , DETERMINA­ TION , had suffered an accident that proved to be fatal . This is the stallion that they purchased from Mr . L . Frank Roper several years ago , and he has been used jointly for showing and breeding . At the time of his death DETERMINATION was stabled in Newport News , Virginia at the Pin Oak Farms , where he was being bred He had previously been stabled and trained at the Lynn Ann Stables in Evans , Georgia , where he was scheduled to return after breeding season .
The Hartnett Stables is located at Norfolk , Virginia , where Chrissie and her father , Dan Hartnett , maintain their own horse activity . The Hartnetts have several horses in training , including a fine four-yearold bay stallion named PRIDE OF DETERMINATION . He is in training at Lynn Ann Stables . We are sorry to learn of the death of DETERMINATION , a fine horse that furnished many hours of pleasure and enjoyment to his owners .
JOE MARTIN STABLES
A recent visit to the Joe Martin Stables in Shelbyville , Tennessee indicated that a lot was going on , including the anticipated arrival of a ' Tittle Joe ( or Judy ) Martin ” sometime in early September . Judy is doing fine and appears to be in good spirits , despite the fact that she can ’ t do much riding these days .
With twenty-six horses in training , Joe has his hands full . In the two-year-old bracket we were much impressed with a bay stud by MIDNIGHT RAID . He is owned by Buddy Payne of Gallatin , and is named LAST RAID . He is a big colt with a lot of motion . R . B . Chambers of Farmington , Michigan has a black SIR WINSTON colt that is making progress . This is the family that purchased EBONY ’ S CAT BALLOU that is currently being shown by daughter Joan Bell . Her sister shows KATHLEENS MISS RAMBLER in
juvenile classes . Another fine colt is EBONY ’ S BLACK KNIGHT ,
owned by Sonja Wiser . He is a full brother to CAT BALLOU and is doing very well . J . B . Hunter of Sparta , Tennessee is mighty pleased with his colt by MIDNIGHT SUN GLO , and Joe Golden of Fayetteville is watching his HANDSHAKER colt with great interest . This colt has been shown several times this year with good results . J . G . Walker of Wartrace owns a fine filly by SUN ’ S DELIGHT that is attracting a lot of attention this year , also . The three-year-old ranks are headed by REFLEC­ TION ’ S SHADOW , the third-place winner at the Celebration last year . He is owned by Payne , Martin and Wiser , and is reported to be on the way to the top again this year . Judy and Joe are proud of their own SWAMP CAT , a three-year-old stud that won the Portland show . MIDNIGHT FINALE , the third place horse in the ' 67 Futurity , is also owned by Joe and Judy . Ernest Smith of Winchester is pleased with his black SIR WINSTON mare . They sold a fine three-year-old mare to Mr . Best of North Carolina for trainer Huck Moss . She is by SIR WINSTON out of a MIDNIGHT SECRET mare . Marshall Truman of Detroit owns a bay mare and Dr . and Mrs . Roy Harmon of Houston ,
Mississippi have a sorrel gelding by EBONY .
Junior horses are also headliners here as STATELY ’ S PRESTIGE , owned by Dr . Harold Mclver of Jackson , Tennessee , takes his share of praise . Also in contention is BIG SHOT ’ S EASTER JOY , a fine bay mare owned by John Mayher of Midland , Georgia . She is tops . A . A . Wyatt of Hillsboro , Tennessee is pleased with his mare named GO GO GIRL . She is a sorrel
by SUN ’ S PAYOFF , and is doing well . In the aged classes it will be REFLECTION ’ S UN­
FORGETTABLE , the horse that tied fourth in the Junior Stake last year . He is a big black stud owned by Beckler , Wiser and Wiser , and is reportedly getting better and better . Joe also has a fine age mare named FASHION LADY . She is a bay that won fourteen blues last year and is owned by Ann House of Fayetteville , Tennessee .

Mr . and Mrs . A . Ben Long , Jr . of Statesville , North Carolina have recently brought back to their stables SAVAGE SAM , their top amateur stallion .
