NOMINATE YOUR MARES AND STALLIONS EARLY TO THE NORTH CENTRAL STATES WALKING HORSE BREEDERS’ FUTURITY
( Continued from page 5)
by Fickling & Talbot his name again hit the spotlight when one of his colts won the 1966 World’ s Grand Championship. SHAKER’ S SHOCKER, with Betty Sain in the saddle, upset the horse world with a surprising victory to attract even more acclaim for his illustrious sire. SHAKER’ S SHOCKER is only one of many of HANDSHAKER’ S colts making fine showings in the ring today.
The story of MACK K’ S HANDSHAKER, as we have already stated, is suitable material for a great novel. The big problem is that, as yet, there is no ending for the book. The popularity’ of this great black stallion is definitely on the rise, undoubtedly due in part to the number of his colts who were tied in the 1967 Celebration. In and around the tri-state area of Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee, this is one stud that is in great demand. His bookings at Fickling’ s Rivoli Farms in Macon are well above expectations, and he already has so much demand for his services in Middle Tennessee that he will be moved to Wolaver Stables in Cornersville in March, and will remain there until after the Celebration.
Further depth is added to our article as we check the pedigree of our subject. According to the most astute experts of equine development, the best methods of assuring the future of a breed is to practice either planned in-breeding or cross-breeding. MACK K’ S HANDSHAKER represents a perfect example of planned cross-breeding in the Walking Horse business. He is by MIDNIGHT MACK K, a fine stallion carrying both MIDNIGHT SUN and MERRY BOY blood, which carries back to great foundation stock in ROAN ALLEN F-38, HUNTER’ S ALLEN F-10 and MERRY LEGS F-4. On the dam side we fmd a perfect opportunity to cross-breed the above established lines with LAST CHANCE blood. His dam, DEEP PURPLE, has further depth on both sides, which provided a lot of the natural ability of MACK K’ S HANDSHAKER.
For further information regarding MACK K’ S HAND SHAKER, call Mr. Arthur Childree, Manager, Ficktiog’ s Rivoli Farms, Macon, Georgia. After March 1st contact Mr. Douglas Wolaver, Wolaver Stables, Cornersville, Tennessee.

As a Contributing Editor for the VOICE in Missouri, I would first like to tell each of you how pleased I am to write this first column from Missouri. Also, I would like to invite all you Missourians to send me your news so that we can share it with our friends in the other states.
I would also like to express my gratitude to the VOICE. I hope everyone will back our magazine, for the VOICE is truly the magazine of the Tennessee Walking Horse people. We should be proud of the fact that it has outsold all other horse magazines and should back it all the way since it is doing such a fine job in promoting the breed of horse we love.
Perhaps I should tell you something about myself. I have always loved horses, having grown up with them. I was raised in Springfield, Missouri and met my husband, Sonny, at a horse show. As a trainer’ s wife, I eat, sleep, and talk horses. Shortly after our marriage we opened a stable in South Carolina but in the back of our minds we hoped someday to return to our home in Missouri. Although Sonny hails from
