Herman Ingram has a good two-year-old and his stable ought to be going full tilt with BAY RUM in the Junior classes , DELIGHT ’ S BLACK LADY in the Mare classes and TOMMY TELL in good form .
We welcome Kenny Lansaw and Tom Erwin , who are going to be with us at Meadowlake Farm this winter . This just about fills us up and , with Lee Jones and Henry Gabbard , we ought to be able to kick up some dust on the training end this winter .
We extend a warm welcome to the Albert Lee Row lands , who have moved to Ohio and are heading up the Fashion Two Twenty Stables at Aurora . With Red and Albert together , they ought to be hard to beat .
ON THE MASON-DiXON LINE by SALLY SAWYER S . DIXIE HIGHWAY — FRANKLIN , OHIO
The Ohio Valley Walking Association , under the di rection of Ralph Lovett and assisted by the able asso ciation secretary^ Shirley Ashford , has certainly put in a fine first year . There are over seventy members at present , and more interest is being generated all the time . To do such a capable job is no accident , and our hats are off to these hard-working people . The first show , managed by Ralph Lovett , was a huge success . It was held at Burlington , Kentucky . The second show , at Dr . Smith ’ s farm at Hamilton , Ohio , waS a real good show with the three-judge system . The Smiths donated their farm and judges Tom Hanawalt , Ulus Allen and Clarence Geeslin donated their time to make it a first-class Walking Horse show . What one judge didn ’ t see , another one did , and they surely worked hard tying horses .
The first class started out with seventeen junior hor ses and there were plenty of good horses right up to the Stake , won by Paul " Whitey ” Whitehead on DUKE OF RHYTHM . Whitey made a good night on it , win ning the Junior class on MIDNIGHT CHANCE , the Two-Year-Old class on THE DEACON , and the Mare class on RHYTHM ’ S HOT PEPPER . He was given a close race by Herman Ingram on DELIGHT ’ S BLACK LADY in the Mare class and the Stake . Herman intro duced a new horse to this area - BAY RUM , owned by the Truesdales of Urbana , Ohio .
Helen Cobb carried away the Ladies class on Ralph Lovett ’ s QUEEN OF DESTINY . Ralph rode THE REAL McCOY to win the Pleasure class .
Barbie Sawyer and ROYAL SHADOW won the Ama teur class with Tom Bohl on RHYTHM ’ S RED FLASH ER right behind her . Georgia Watkins and COMMAND ER won the Costume class , and ALVIN and I won the Junior Exhibitor class .
Jack Gilkey , top trainer for the Good Acres Farm in Athens , Ohio , is reported to be getting better rapidly after an automobile accident , and we hope he will be back chasing those blue ribbons soon .
Joe Little is back in the saddle again and is start ing a new barn . We wish him all the luck in the world and hope he will be bringing out the winners next year . Anyone needing some stock worked can get some help from this stable , especially with the young stock .
