The Two-Year-Old Championship produced some real fireworks as GUNSMOKE ’ S FIREBALL and Ron nie Spears were put to the task of proving their championship status for 1968 . In the preliminary class FIREBALL was pushed hard by David Welsh on SOUND OF FURY , as well as several other top con tenders . He came back strong in the Championship , however , and proved that the big bay is still in com mand . It was a real treat to see Bill Hutson show COPY ’ S RECORD for the first time and from all ap pearances he will do well with her as she goes into three-year-old competition next year . He won an im pressive blue in the Filly Class at the Jubilee .
In the Juvenile Stake it was the World Champion SHADOW ’ S GAY LADY that topped a field of fine young riders to win an impressive blue while Melissa Lyon was the winner in Walking Horsemanship .
There were a lot of interesting sidelights to the Ju bilee this year and horses of note were a major topic of conversation . It was good to see such horses as SHADOW ’ S KING COTTON , the 1964 World Champ ion Junior Horse , back in the showring . Buddy Hugh made a nice show with him in the stud class and indi cations are that the big white horse still has a lot of winning left in him . We were also pleased to see the all-time favorite GOLDFINGER in the Senior Juvenile Class with Lindsey Apel riding . When these two get another season under their belts they should get back
in the winner ’ s column . Lindsey will also be showing SHADOW ’ S MOTION MAN next year .
There was a lot of talk about a two-year-old named DELIGHT CAN DO , a fine black stud now being trained by Sam Caldwell . Sam has had him only a short time and is doing a commendable job with him . By spring they should be ready to take on the big time . These were just a few of the many fine horses on the showgrounds that created some interesting con versation at the 1968 Jubilee .
We hope to work closely with the Jubilee show next year and do our part on behalf of the Tennessee Walking Horse to make this one of the truly fine shows in the nation .
