WALKIN ’ ON BLUEGRASS
WALKIN ’ ON BLUEGRASS
by ED ASHCRAFT

The last of the show season for 1968 has ended and the talk has turned from how great they were to how great they will be . Trainers , both professional and amateur , are hard at work starting the yearlings , thinking about cantering the two-year-olds and trying to decide just what to do to make that aged horse just a little better next year .
One of the stables where all this is happening is Forest View Farm in Union , Ky . Some of the Finest horses to be found anywhere can be found here being trained and groomed by Mr . Forest Margrave , owner , and Vernon Mullins , trainer .
One of the Fine young horses here is SUN ’ S PROM- ENADER . This two-year-old stands 16.1 hands and is as black as he is big . This colt was started late last spring , as were all of the two-year-olds here , and has been brought along slowly . From the looks of things now , people had better watch out in those three-year-old classes next year .
Mr . Margrave ’ s aged amateur horse , MOONLIGHT SENSATION , was sidelined most of last season by a series of misfortunes but was coming back to form by late August when he was tied reserve in the amateur class at the Kentucky State Fair . Mr . Margrave has high hopes for this horse and , from the way he was working the last time I saw him , he has every reason to expect a great season next year .
I was very pleased to receive a letter from Joan and Bill Fryman of Carlisle , Kentucky , telling me about some of the activity in their area .
Joan and Bill are the proud owners of MIDNIGHT MOONBOW , a coming two-year-old they have in train ing with Garvey Curtsinger at his Lazy " G ” Stables in Blue Licks , Ky .
Also mentioned in their letter was Middletown Sta bles owned by Bennie Jamison and Eddie B . Waggon er . Eddie showed GO BOY ’ S DELIGHT through a very successful season this year and is looking for ward to more of the same next year . Bruce Waggoner has also been very successful this year in pony clas ses , showing BLAZING SUN . Also in training there is MIDNIGHT NIP W ., owned by Dr . and Mrs . Jack T . Morford of Carlisle .
