GEORGE WITT STABLES
In a recent talk with George Witt we learned about the yearling that he purchased during the Celebration this year that had so many people talking . This com ing two-year-old is a black SUN ’ S DELIGHT colt out of a MIDNIGHT SUN mare . The owner is Bill Todd of Pomona , California and George tells us that , if the colt keeps working the way he has started out , he will be one of the best he has ever started . His name is DELIGHT ’ S SOULMAN and we will keep an eye on him when show season starts .
George had a good record at the Celebration this year , winning several ribbons . These include a Re serve in the Two-Year-Old Stallion Class on SHAD OW ’ S TOP HONOR for Mr . and Mrs . Paul Wiener of Cedartown , Georgia , and a blue in the Three-Year-Old Gelding Class on DAN ’ S GO BOY for Beth Turney of Somerville , Alabama .
SUPER SPORT MOVED TO STEVE HILL STABLES
Emmy Downes has moved her horses , including the popular black junior stud , SUPER SPORT , to the Steve Hill Stables in Beech Grove , Tennessee . The horse was shown out of Silo Hill Stables in Newberry , South Carolina by Bill Sledge this past show season .
Also making the move to Steve ’ s barn will be an amateur black mare , MINOR MIRACLE , as well as a coming three-year-old SHADOW stallion . Emmy point ed out that Bill Sledge did a good job in the time he had her horses and she plans to continue business with Bill on some other horses .
Emmy plans to show SUPER SPORT in amateur classes in 1969 out of Steve ’ s barn . She expressed confidence in Steve ’ s established reputation and is looking forward to showing out of his barn .
. JEFFCOAT STABLES
The Jeffcoat Stables in Cordova , Tennessee has a new trainer and everything is really buzzing . The new man is Allan Callaway from Rayle , Georgia .
Allan is currently working 30 head of show horses with several outstanding prospects in the group . One particularly promising colt is the World Champion Yearling Stallion , EBONY ’ S BLACK JACK , and an other is DON JUAN , a colt by CARBON COPY .
Allan is also working on sixteen other coming twoyear-old colts .
SUGARLOAF FARMS
Randall Rollins has recently started construction of a new training facility in Atlanta , Georgia . Continuing the stable name that they had in Odessa , Deleware , the facility will be known as Sugarloaf Farms and trainer Tommy Howell will continue in his capacity as head trainer . The stable will be similar to the Cashion Farms in Shelbyville , and will have sixteen box stalls that are unusually large and well-equipped . Located on a slight knoll with beautiful pine groves surround ing it , the new Sugarloaf stable will have a Celebra tion-size ring in front near the road . They will not take any outside horses for training , according to present plans , and will probably expand their own stock a lit tle at a time . Tommy is doing well at the present with their current string of horses and is looking forward to going to work in the new stable sometime after the first of the year .
BILLY BOYD JOINS LEESWOOD
During the Celebration Mr . and Mrs . Cebern Let were engaged in the process of locating a trainer for their Leeswood Stables in Oaks Corners , New York After almost two weeks of interviewing the variou available prospects , they hired a young man with fine reputation and a lot of ability . Mr . Billy Boyd c Murfreesboro , Tennessee returned to New York wit them after the Celebration to take over the reins < their large operation . Billy comes well recommende and should be able to fit in well with the Leeswoo operation .
The Lees have made every effort to stay in th mainstream of Walking Horse activity and have don very well with their horses both in the Northeast am in the Deep South . This is a clear testimonial to th <. quality of the horses that they have purchased and bred and the type of guidance that they have sought in the Walking Horse business . We wish Billy Boyd much success in this new effort and we are sure that he will do a good job at Leeswood .
CARBON COPY COLT TRIPLES IN VALUE IN SIX WEEKS
A recent phone conversation revealed that MASTER COPY , a fine coming-two colt by CARBON COPY , has tripled in value since the Hengen Lenox Sale in Sep tember . This would not be news except for the fact that this is the approach that was made in the sale booklet describing the black stud colt . During the sale MASTER COPY was purchased by Mrs . F . M . Shiver of Columbus , Georgia for $ 3,100 . He was put in train ing at the Harvey Lefevers Stables and in six weeks was attracting much acclaim . With several top train ers seeking an option on the colt , he was purchased by Mr . Bill Tomlinson of North Wilkesboro , N . C . and will be in training with Russell Pate of Collierville , Tennessee shortly . More about MASTER COPY later !
