ACE ' S SENSATION Wink Groover , up of Orrville , Alabama , was outstanding in this event , and the big bay stud by MACK K ’ S HANDSHAKER certainly lived up to his name as he " free-wheeled ” his way around the ring to victory . Reserve was DAT ’ S-DE-BABE , the Junior Mare Champion , ridden by C . A . Bobo for Bill Tomlinson , and tying third was the Fashion Two Twenty favorite , GREGG ’ S PER FECTION , ridden by Albert Rowland . It was a fine class that set the stage for the grand championship .
As usual , the Amateur Championship at Montgom ery was one of the best . Winning the blue was the ever-popular GO BOY ’ S CHATTERBOX in his finest performance since the Spring Jubilee . The fancy bay stallion , ridden by Candace Williams , showed his met tle as he worked his way in and out of the large class under the experienced guidance of Miss Williams . Another popular bay stallion was making himself known as Lloyd Wood piloted his " big-lick ” CLOWN ’ S SPUR to the Reserve Championship . Lloyd made a superb show and had championship form on the last pass that left no doubt in the minds of many as to the ability of this fine horse . Third was HILL ’ S PERFEC TION , the Juvenile Champion , ridden by KimLovette .
Carlton Pitts made the finest ride of his career as he guided GO BOY ’ S BLACK ROOSTER to victory in the Three-Year-Old Championship for Capt . and Mrs . E . A . Self of Mobile , Alabama . This black stud is also much improved over his Celebration performance and gave rise to his continued championship qualities in the future . Reserve was SHAKER ’ S BLACK DEVIL with Boyd Hudgins up for Carson Sands of Claxton , Georgia . Third was another highly-touted stallion , DELIGHT ’ S MAGIC BAY , ridden by Jack Johnson for Link Spainhour of North Wilkesboro , N . C . This was a fine class that clearly indicated that our breed is improving every year .
The Two-Year-Old Championship was one of the best we have seen in years . There were more fine young horses in this class than in any we have seen lately . Riding for the blue was SHADOW ’ S ROYAL FLUSH , with Mack Motes up for Bailey , Motes and Orrell . The preliminary stallion class was won by Billy Hale ’ s EBONY ’ S BLACK MARKET with Wink Groover up . Wink declined to show back in the stake , however . Reserve in the Championship was CALL OF THE WILD , a fancy bay stallion by CARBON COPY that was ridden by C . A . Bobo for Bill Tomlinson . Watch these horses in the future — they all have great potential .
The Walking Pony Championship was won by the outstanding team of Lynn Doughty and SETTING SUN ’ S APOLLO , with a close reserve being tallied by Larry Martin on ECHO ’ S LITTLE MAN . Larry de feated Lynn at Murfreesboro earlier this year and she came back to defeat him at the Celebration . Both of these fine young people are good sports and fine ex hibitors , and we hope to see a lot of truly fine con tests between them and their ponies in the future . This was one of the finest Walking Pony Classes we have ever seen , and all but two or three of the entries would have measured under the standard . The horses
in this class didn ’ t tie anyway , but they were some what hard to see over .
The Juvenile Class saw a ring full of fine horses and
competitors . It was HILL ’ S PERFECTION and Kim Lovette that tied the blue with Greg Gochneaur mak ing a fine show to tie reserve on EBONY ROSE . Jan Wright was third on GO BOY ’ S BLACK BARON .
