old stallion . Don and AIR GUN made a thrilling show at the Searcy show held during Joe Webb ’ s sale . This horse could be the greatest to come from the state of Missouri if he continues his exciting performances . He is by GUNSMOKE ’ S SON .
Don has made news with another Junior horse early in the season . COMMAND ’ S DECISION , the bay fouryear-old owned by Preston Richardson , walked away with the blue at the Good Samaritan Charity Horse
Show in Springfield in a ring full of sixteen good Junior horses .
Don also has a good prospect in COMMANDER ’ S BLITZ , a three-year-old full brother to COMMAND ’ S DECISION . This good colt is owned by Henry Lunneman of St . Louis .
Don is also working a number of good horses for Dr . Ralph Baney of the Red Bridge Farm in Kansas City .
Don always has several good amateur and juvenile
horses showing from his barn . Jane Richardson and GUNSMOKE ’ S FIRST LADY are ready to continue their winning streak . Last fall these two ended the season with a blue in the ladies ’ and in the amateur stake at the American Royal Horse Show , which is one of the greatest in the nation . Melody Major of Jefferson City has another black mare with Don — a four-vear-old by THE WITCH DOCTOR , who is the sire of WARLOCK . Named WITCH DOCTOR ’ S MAG IC , this mare is for safe at present .
Ed Loeffler has his mare , COMMANDER ' S GO GO GIRL , in training here , also . They say that she is much improved over last season .
Don has a good contender for either the mare class or the junior with the bay mare , COMMANDER ’ S SO CIETY . This sending mare is owned by Gene Goff of Jefferson City Two other nice mares in the barn are
• JADA JOKER . George Logan ’ s black mare , and LADY IN COMMAND , who belongs to Lester Wilkerson .
If you are in the California area , be sure to drop in and see the Bolingers . I am sure they will be glad to see you .
Echo Acres Stables of Springfield also have a barn full of show horses . C . L . LeDuc is the owner , Floyd Posenke the trainer . Whenever the gates open for the
amateur class Floyd will send in a ring full ; besides these , he has several outstanding young and open horses . Morris Collier of Fayetteville , Arkansas has his black amateur stallion with Floyd . This five-yearold is named ROCKY HILL . Another black amateur horse is the good mare , CHIMNEY SWEEP , owned by Bill and Dorrell Hanks of Springfield . Mr . and Mrs . R . L . Carpenter of Lee ’ s Summit have two new amateur horses that they should do well with . GO BOY ’ S MARK was the reserve three-year-old champion in
the Southwest Missouri Horse Show Association last year . Their other new horse is GO BOY ’ S GLORY .

WALKIN ’ IN ARKANSAS by Joan Beasley
This being the first article from Arkansas , perhaDs a short introductory paragraph is in order . My hus band , Joe , is a Veterinary Pathologist at the Univer sity of Arkansas . We have a little boy , Mike , aged five , and are all Walking Horse enthusiasts . We are " dabbling " in the business just for fun , and are venturing into the showring this year with our stallion — also for fun ! We think Arkansas has needed to be represented in our favorite magazine , the VOICE , for a long time now , and it will be up to you Walking Horse people of our state to help keep this column going . Start advertising your horses so other states will know what we have , and please send all information about your horses to me , Mrs . Joe Beasley , Valhalla , Route 1 , Farmington , Arkansas 72730 , or phone 267-3857 . Thank you .
If any of you want to spend a very pleasant day and see some top horses worked , visit the Bruce Harris
Stables at Lamar in Johnson County . The stables are located on 400 acres with timbered hills , rolling mead ows , a lake , and all the best of our Arkansas scenery Add to this mares with foals by their sides and wha^ more could one ask ? Mr . Harris is a most genial host and an avid field-trial man , and will certainly take you on the grand tour to show off both his horses and his bird dogs .
Mr . Jerry Underwood , one of the most capable young trainers around , will ride every horse in the barn for you and maybe let you ride , too , if you hint just a little ! The barn has 19 stalls , farrier ’ s space , washing-down room , tack room , and office . There is an indoor hallway 204 feet long for bad-weather riding and an outside ring for nicer days . Jerry , who worked with Joe Webb of Searcy and worked with a couple of their World Champions , not only trains show horses but also many good field-trial and pleasure horses . Right now he is working especially hard on their GO BOY ’ S SHADOW stallion , SHADOWS FLASH , which they are showing this season . FLASH , a lovely deep chestnut and a real natural , is the pride of the barn and rightly so . Their big , black and beautiful stud , ARKANSAS MIDNIGHT ( known as PEPPER ) by MID NIGHT PLEASURE , has had a run of hard luck the past couple of years but perhaps he ’ ll be back in the work ring by next season .
Two three-year-old fillies , both by PEPPER , are coming on especially good — MIDNIGHT JAN and MARY
GAY H . Jerry had MARY GAY in the ring on one of my recent visits and she was doing everything he asked for and more . . . and he asks for a lot . He is also spending a lot of time on two outside horses : Mr . Wilson Jones of Clarksville has a three-year-old blue roan stallion , PARADER ’ S SERENADE , that is like a melody to watch , and we have our own JAVA B ., a
black roan MERRY BOY stallion , being put through his gaits every day . JAVA is coming home shortly , however , simply because we miss him !
Just spoke with Mr . Bill Bayles from over Siloam Springs way , and he says he has sold off most of his
stock , leaving just a couple of brood mares right now . Of course , he and Mrs . Nancy Randall still have RAN DALL ’ S SNOWMAN , a snow-white stud , in training with Sonny Scrivner up in Missouri . Mr . Bayles , who rode SNOWMAN to a blue at Crane , Missouri , is an amateur who has ridden Walkers for just about three short years , but he is always in that ring up against the pros and really does a formidable job !
