CIRCLE 4 HORSE FARM
14
On a stormy Saturday we visited the Circle 4 Horse Farm near Cedartown , Georgia . Owner Paul \\ iener told us that he has a total of 4S head on his lyoacre farm , all registered Walking Horse stock . Trainer Ernest Shivers is working Mr . Wiener ’ s show stock
and some outside horses .
Since the rain was pouring down , Ernest worked several horses in the barn hallway . It was obvious that the horses couldn ’ t really '' get loose ” in the hall ,
but we could tell that with a little more room there
would have been some real walking going on .
SOCIETY SURPRISE is not being shown this year , as his breeding book seems to be filling up nicely and they naturally don ’ t wrant to strain him , but he
will be represented in the ring by his progeny .
SOCIETY ’ S LITTLE MAN is " fatter than he ’ s ever been ” and looks real good . Pauline Wiener George will show this age gelding this year . His first show will be either Stone Mountain or Chattanooga . LIT TLE MAN is one of those horses that makes walking
look easy .
EBONY ’ S BLUE VELVET , the coming-three blue roan mare by EBONY MASTERPIECE , is ready for her first show at Smith ’ s Station , Alabama . She has picked up weight and breadth since we saw her last July , and still has style to spare .
SHADOW ’ S TOP HONOR has a lot of front end for a two-year-old . He ’ s taking to training well , and is full of fire .
SOCIETY ’ S IMMORTAL SUN has been gelded and will be Mr . Wiener ’ s amateur horse this year . He had already been worked , so we didn ’ t get to see him except on the walker . He ’ s a big one !
Dr . and Mrs . O . E . Brannan ( she plays a mean organ , and gaits ' em good at the shows ) have SOCI ETY ’ S EBONY HEIR in training and are pleased with the results . The Hamrick Brothers have Ernest working a black-and-white two-year-old filly with lots of reach .
Ernest owns a tremendous two-year-old by MID NIGHT SUN named MIDNIGHT SUN , JR . Mr . Harlin Hayes chose the mare for this breeding , and GLO RIOUS BEAUTY ’ S papers helped put WILSON ’ S AL LEN on JR .’ s pedigree four times . We didn ’ t get to see him work , either , but his conformation is reminiscent of his great sire ’ s . His size comes from his dam , and he looks to be about 16 hands already .
Ernest and Mr . Wiener are both pleased with the way SOCEITY ’ S BLUE DEVIL , a pretty blue roan two-year-old by SOCIETY SURPRISE , is working . He was being ridden with a loose rein one day and " just decided to walk .” He must have liked it , because he does it real well . He ’ s got a lot of reach and a lot of push and we should hear much more about the BLUE DEVIL . A visiting trainer , the rider of three World ’ s Champion two-year-olds , said he would wear the roses Another trainer offered to train him " for free ” Mr Wiener would let him take him to the Celebration At the moment he ’ s doing too much for Ernest Shiver * for them to consider moving him . 15
We saw our first " hippie horse ” at Circle 4 Horse Farm . He ’ s a two-year-old gelding , as yet untrimmed and a trick of coloring ( sorrel and white ) and head shape makes him look like all he needs is a flower behind his ear . This little fellow ’ s for sale - We didn ’ t get his name , but FLOWER POWER sure fits !
We enjoyed our visit to Circle 4 — it ’ s quite evident that both good horses and Southern hospitality can be found well south of Middle Tennessee . If you ’ re around Rome or Cedartown , Georgia , drop in and ask ' em to
show you the line-up .
WARREN STABLES
This is the time of year when most people have horse fever , as show season is about ready to start . Petie Warren and Mann Ring have had the very long^
cold , dry winter , but are very proud to say that they have the best string of show horses that they have seen in a long time . Included in this string are Mr . and Mrs . John I . Borum ’ s horses , looking better than ever . The junior mare that showed so well and closed the season winning the age mare class at Houston , Texas is truly great . They also have a junior gelding that looks like a champion . Also , they have a black three-year-old stud that will make you take more than a second glance . And we must add to our list our three-year-old SUN ’ S DELIGHT filly that everyone says will be your next Three-Year-Old World Champion Filly . We don ’ t want to forget to mention the three-year-old black MIDNIGHT SUN stud that belongs to the Dr . Bill Beaumont family of Clarksville . We know everyone remembers little Sally and this is the horse that we have all been dreaming about .
In the three-year-old division , Warren Stables has a SUN ’ S DELIGHT filly that won many ribbons last season for the proud owner , Mrs . Ann Branson of Madisonville , Kentucky . This filly is ready to start where she left off last year .
Coming to the four-year-old division , we have Mr . Whitaker ’ s stud of Owensboro , Kentucky . This stud was found up in Kentucky and has never been shown , so is a newcomer to the show ring . He has caught on fast and is ready for all competition . Also in this division up Hopkinsonville , Kentucky way we have an EBONY MASTERPIECE mare for Mr . and Mrs . M . G . Williams . This mare is ready for the gates to open . In the gelding class , we have a chestnut horse for Mr . and Mrs . Nofsinger that is doing real well . In the
same age , we have a black stud that belongs to Mr . and Mrs . Favors that was shown last season with
great success . In the twoyear-old division , we have a MIDNIGHT stud out of a HANDSHAKER mare that has a big way of going . The stable owns a little GO BOY INVASION stud that is looking good and has a great future .
In the filly division , we have a SUN ’ S DELIGHI colt which belongs to Mr . and Mrs . John Lindahl ol Ashland City . This filly will make you sit up and take notice . Also in training is a MERRY GO BOY black ally owned by Mr . M . G . Williams . This filly was started late and has been worked very little , so far » ut will be ready at the proper time . In the juvenile division , you can ’ t overlook Pam
Clark of Benton , Kentucky on her outstanding juven-
