OLD HICKORY STABLES
Mr . George Lee , well-known Chattanooga area Walking Horse enthusiast , has gotten things moving in fine fashion with thier new trainer , Don Davis . Don is a young fellow with a lot of experience and should do well at their stable in McDonald , Tennessee . Michael Lee , eighteen-year-old son of Mr . Lee and the late Geneva Lee , will assist Don with the training chores . Mike has been riding for several years and has improved greatly this past season . They have just finished a new addition to their stables , which now has over twenty stalls , and have just finished re-building a new nine-horse van . Watch for Old Hickory Stables .
JOHN T . CARTER
We recently heard that John T . Carter has sold his Reserve World Champion Junior Horse , WAR- LOCK , for a very impressive figure . Mr . Russell Waggoner , former owner of this fine horse , has had a lot of offers but Mr . Frank Parnell of Newbern , Tennessee was the man who got the job done . WARLOCK was one of the most talked-about horses at the Celebration and all indications are that he will be a top contender for next year . It is reported that Douglas Wolaver will get him for training .
DAVID WELSH
North Carolina is a fast-moving Walking Horse center , and the news that David Welsh had moved to Mocksville and gone into business for himself was good news indeed to many Carolina people . David has been training for the past four years in New York , and climaxed his activities there by winning the " Horse of the Year ” award last year . David and his family have taken up residence in Mocksville and he has leased a fine stable from Mr . Donald Riddle . His services are already in great demand and it appears to have been a good move .
LEESWOOD STABLES
Mr . and Mrs . Cebern Lee , who have been instrumental in increasing interest in the Tennessee Walking Horse in the Northeast , announced that Mr . Sylvester Skirkowski has taken over as head trainer at their Leeswood Stables in Oaks Corners , New York . " Syl ,” as he is known to his many friends , is a Tennessee boy with a lot of experience for a young man . He should do an excellent job for the Lees , who have some of the best stock in the country . More on this fine stable later .
R & R STABLES
The R & R Stables of Salem , Missouri has had a very successful first year of showing this season . This new stable should certainly be proud of its accomplishments in its initial year of competition . Trainer Howard Roberts is doing a fine job and the stable is growing rapidly . The top horse showing with the R & R colors so far has been GO BOY ’ S HI FLY , an aged stud that Harold Kennedy had for a while . Howard and HI FLY have complemented each other perfectly and are leading threats every time
October , 1967 they enter the show ring . HANDSHAKER ’ S JOY , a three-year-old mare , is one of the most exciting show horses in the state . In her last show at Salem , Mo . she walked her way to the blue ribbon over some of the top horses in this area . This mare is in training at the Vic Thompson Stables in Shelbyville , Tenn . Another fine horse in this stable is SUN ’ S INSPIR­ ATION , a magnificent black gelding who was recently purchased by Mrs . Theo Ziske of Salem for her grandson , Phil . Phil will be showing in juvenile and amateur classes .
Plans are now on the drawing board for a new stable to accommodate the numerous Walking Horses in this area .
Jim Reary , who is manager of the stable , has worked hard to develop his riding skills and has now become a fine amateur rider . Jim and his lovely wife Shirley are hard-working young horse enthusiasts who are devoted to Walking Horses . This fine young couple can be counted on to contribute their share to the breed in the very near future .
All interested horse lovers in the Salem area are encouraged to stop by the R & R Stables whenever they can .
JORDAN HOLLOW STABLES
Mr . Everett Shipp has recently returned to Stanley , Virginia , where he has leased the Jordan Hollow Stables of Mr . C . B . Graves , for whom he was formerly manager and trainer for five years .
He brings with him five excellent show prospects , among them those two royal specimens of the Walking Horse breed , ROLLING DUKE and ROLLING DUTCHESS , who are owned by Mr . Robert Harris of Charlottesville , Virginia . In addition to these , he will also train all horses of the C . B . Graves family .
Mr . Shipp plans to exhibit the horses from Jordan Hollow Stables in as many of the Virginia and nearby states ’ shows as he possibly can during the remainder of the season . This competent , popular trainer will be a welcome sight back in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia .
HIGH HAVEN WALKING HORSE STABLE
Things are very busy at Mr . O . L . Hall ’ s High Haven Walking Horse Stable , located west of Springfield on Highway 13 . Trainer Chester Beshears is getting horses ready for the Missouri State Fair at Sedalia , and it looks like he will give some other Walking Horses some rough competition .
One of their best is DARK MOTION MAKER , a black five-year-old mare that has been ridden very successfully by owner Mr . Hall , winning the Saddle & Sirloin Show at Kansas City and the Grand Championship at Columbia . Chester has done very well this year with MACK K ’ S PRINCE , a five-year-old bay MIDNIGHT MACK K gelding owned by Frances Dulin of Brookline , Mo . They won the show at Bolivar , and tied the blue in the Stud and Gelding Class at Columbia .
Mr . Hall has two mares of which he is very proud . One is CRYSTAL ’ S FIRST LADY by GO BOY ’ S CRY­ STAL BALL , a black three-year-old that has done
