TENNESSEE A & I FAIR HORSE SHOW Sugarloaf Farms Wins Five Blues at Annual Show in Knoxville STAKE CLASS WINNER: Tommy Howell and ETERNAL SUN receiving the ribbon and awards after winning the stake class at Knoxville. "Local boy makes good ..." could very well have been the title of any story regarding Walking Horse classes at the Tennessee Valley A & I Fair Horse Show. It was Tommy Howell from Englewood, Ten nessee, current trainer for the Sugarloaf Farms of Atlanta, Georgia, who carried off five Blues and an impressive Reserve in his first contest at home in two years. Our news coverage of this show is somewhat be lated due to the fact that the management of the show did not send us results or pictures as has been their custom in the past. We were able to get results from another source, however. The three-day show carried only a few Walking Horse classes but they were well attended. The Two- Year-Old Class saw Bill Gibson of Meadow View Farm capture the blue on EBONY’S FAIR LADY. Reserve was Wink Groover on SILVER DOLLAR for Pam and Charles Moore. Tying third was Kendall Armstrong on MANILA FAIR LADY. Tommy Howell posted his first victory on EBONY PRINCESS in the Three-Year- Old Class. MISS SENSATION, ridden by Wink Groov er for Carmage Walls, tied Reserve, while Frank Reg ister was third on ETERNAL FLAME for Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hashe. November, 1967 MIDNIGHT KING MIDAS tood the top spot in the Junior Class as Wink Groover rode for Billy Hale. Second was Roy Starky on MYSTERY’S COMMAND, with Fred Condry getting third on MERRY SUN’S SUNBURST. Tommy Howell came back strong in the Stud & Gelding Class to take another Blue on ETER NAL SUN for Sugarloaf Farms. Reserve was MERRY BOY’S SHADOW, with Carolyn Stansberry riding for Riding High Stables. SUN’S ACE OF SPADES tied a good third with Bob Howell riding. The Ladies Class was won by Mary Howell riding SETTING SUN’S SUNBEAM for Sugarloaf Farms. Reserve was DREAM AT MIDNIGHT with Debbie Pollard up. Fanny France was third on MAJOR’S RENEGADE. Again in the Juvenile Class it was the Sugarloaf Farms of Randall Rollins that tied the Blue and this trip it was young Rickie Rollins on MERRY BLUE BOY. Reserve was CELEBRITY with Ton Hank ins up and SIR HENRY’S TORNADO with Karen Bramblett up tied third. Stake time brought a most exciting class and the final workout saw ETERNAL SUN tie his second Blue Ribbon of the show with Tommy Howell up. Reserve was MIDNIGHT KING MIDAS with Wink Groover going the route. Third was MERRY SUN’S SUNBURST with Fred Condry riding for Renfro Construction Co. 21
