ONE OF THE BEST... the HI LINE from the Deep SOUTH The th By Billy Joe Ann Estess Box 222, Kentwood, Louisiana Hi! Having just returned from two of the early Spring shows, and looking over the new crop of Two Year Olds and having seen the improvements made by aged horses, I would venture to say that Louisiana and Mississippi have something to be quite proud of. The Tylcrtown, Mississippi Show, which was re-activated by the Heart O’ Dixie Walking Horse Association, was a big success, having all classes filled to overflowing with top stock. The Meridian, Mississippi Show told the same story, and it seems that the Show season in the deep South is off to a good start. The Heart O’ Dixie Walking Horse Association, under the guidance of their nine-man Board of Directors, is show ing w'hat a few interested people can accomplish in just a few short months. The membership now' stands at almost 90 Family Memberships involving approximately 400 per sons. The fast working group has already bought 20 acres of land just outside McComb, Mississippi and started clearing and building Show ring facilities. In addition to this they have set up numerous Promotional Shows, have an Affiliation Plan which several of the established show's have joined, and have their own Point System that is already in effect for the 1967 Season. They have a Futurity that has already made plans for the colts pro duced in the area encompassed by the Association and expect to have their first Colt Show this Fall. The Heart O’ Dixie Walking Horse Association Championship Show' has a tentative date of August 4 and 5 and will offer both Line classes and Stakes classes in each group. Quite an accomplishment for an organization that has been in existence less than a year, wouldn’t you say? There will be a rash of shows in the near future for our vicinity including Seminary, Mendenhall, Magee, Pearl and some I’m sure I’ve forgotten to mention. Please forgive me. I hope to see you all there, though and all on Blue Ribbon winners. Bye now.
