Porter Rodgers Sale
Precedes Show!
On April 8th, little Searcy, Arkansas, with a popula
tion of 8,843, became the center of attention for Walking
Horse lovers throughout the South and Southwest. It was
an all-day affair as this cordial Arkansas town opened it’s
doors wide to take in the mass of enthusiasts that came
fr om manv-a-mile to attend the annual Porter Rodgers
Stables Auction Sale and to stay on for the Searcy Walk
ing Horse Show.
Officially, our hosts and hostesses were Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Webb, Dr. and Mrs. Porter Rodgers, Sr. and Dr. and
Mrs. Porter Rodgers, Jr., but unofficially we were made
to feel welcome by everyone in Searcy. The weather man
cooperated very well as a comfortable, balmy afternoon
and evening was made available for the various events.
It was a wonderful way to spend a weekend and to start
the major show season on the right foot, renewing friend
ships and meeting new people.
THE SALE
Promptly at noon Saturday, Mr. Mabrun Magnusson,
called for the first horse and read the pedigree and qual
ifications in his own inimitable style. Turning the mike
over to the Auctioneer, the sale was underway. A jam-
packed crowd lined the hall of the Joe Webb Stable and

sat on the bleacher seats to view the sale. Bidding was
brisk as ground man George Livingstone kept things mov
ing at a lively pace.
A total of twenty-four select horses went through the
sa e and from all indications this was one of the best early
season sales this year. Prices were good on brood mares
an colts alike. The show stock that was run through
rought worthy prices and everyone seemed to feel that
t e groundwork had been laid to establish this as a major
sale lor years to come.
The first sale of Porter Rodgers stock was held last
year and all care was taken to provide buyers with ample
mtormation, complete pedigrees and good conditions to
enable them to buy with confidence. The crowd this year
