Walk A By Stables I he following letter was recently received from our good friend, Larry Lowman, who has been doing some “barnstorming” on his own. We appreciate his help very much. Dear Bruce: In the past few weeks I have visited around to a cou ple of barns seeing some good colts and aged horses. My first stop was Charlie Martin’s. Charlie is work ing a good aged mare. ROCK-A-BY LADY H. I his black mare by MIDNIGHT ROCK AWAY was pur chased by James Rowland, Fred Jones and Charles Martin at the Montgomery Show. Charlie has a good coming two-year-old by SUN’S DELIGHT and owned by Mr. Bell of Virginia. This colt is ready to go to the show now. He is a sorrell. Another is a three-vear-old black mare by FLYING CLOUD. Her name is GO BOY’S BLACK DIAMOND and she is owned by Jerry Glauf and Kenneth Jones of Murfreesboro. Charlie just recently sold his good sorrel Ebony mare, EBONY'S DOLLY. Reserve World Champion Futurity two-vcar-old, to Mr. Billy Hale for Mr. Jack Richards. My next stop was the David Mason Stables. David is working about 14 two-year-olds. Some of the good ones are MR. CHALLENGER, two-vcar-old grey stud, by SIR WINSTON, owned by Dr. Sarah Womack of Shelbyvillc. And a two-vear-old black stud. K. F. DANDY MAN, by MERRY MIDNIGHT SUN. owned by Dr. Marvin Silvers of Bradenton. Florida. This is a real good colt. Also a sorn-ll filly, by MIDNIGHT SATAN with the name SATAN SATIN. This two-year-old is owned by Jimmy Haynes and David Mason of Murfreesboro. David is doing a good job with his colts and will be hard to beat come spring. My last stop was a new stable here in Murfreesboro, the Brandon, and Boyd Stable. This stable has only been in operation about two months and is doing exceptionally well. It is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brandon and Mr. and Mrs. Billy Boyd, both of Murfreesboro. Billy, who used to train for Charlie Martin, is working 15 horses and some mighty good ones. White I was there Billy worked a good four-year-old sorrell gelding. SPUR’S SUPREME, an amateur horse who is owned and will be shown by Angie Sample of Mur freesboro. A four-year-old chestnut stud, SHADOW’S COLONEL, owned by Mrs. Ann Bland of Murfreesboro, will be Billy’s top stake horse come spring. Billy has a good three-vear- old black stud. RHYTHM’S BUD by BLACK RHYTHM. This colt is owned by Mr. Tommy Bland of Murfreesboro. Billy also has a real good two-year-old red roan stud, SHADOW’S TROPHY, who is owned by Donald Bag- gerly and Sam Lasscter of Murfreesboro. This colt can really get the job done. Billy is doing a good job with his horses and I think he will be recognized come show season. A note of interest is that Carlton Pitts is now working GO BOY’S BLACK JACK. Bridlewood Stables One. of the newest modern Walking Horse barns in Alabama is located just north of Birmingham on Highway 31. The stables is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Gene Cham bers of Morris, Alabama. Wayne Luna, formerly of Pulaski and Lewisburg. Tennessee, has leased and is now- operating out of this barn. is The stable is 185 feet long, consists of 24 large stalls, a tack room, wash room and walker. The hallway is 18 feet wide and there is ample room outdoors. The modern office has large glass windows in which visitors can sit and watch horses work inside and out. Wavne, who has been around and in the Walking Horse business all of his life, has a well-rounded group of horses for the 1967 season. Among the horses Wayne is working is a beautiful aged bay stallion, MY MR. LUCKY. This animal, owned' by M. E. Huddleston of Birmingham, Alabama, is coming on stronger as the show season grows nearer. Another aged horse high on the prospective stake horse list is SHADOVV’S TOM CAT, owned by R. L. Sandlin of Warrior, Alabama. He is a big horse with a big way of going. A young horse causing much comment by those who have seen him is the two-year-old stallion, MR. SOCIETY. This sorrel colt has looks and ability rarely seen in a young horse. He is owned by Claude Walls of Havden, Alabama. Hugh Taylor of Childcrsburg, Ala bama, also has two two-year-olds showing a lot of promise in training with Wayne. DAWN’S BLUE ANGEL, a ter rific blue roan mareowne d by Tommy Duchock of Ful- tondale, Alabama, is a little lady who has come on this year to show true showing ability and should be a winner in a lot of classes. In the amateur class will be SWANKY PERFEC TION, an aged stallion owned by Mr. and Mrs. Gene Chambers of Morris, Alabama. Gene Chambers will be showing SWANKY. This horse has a lick and big way of going that few stallions can achieve. Another horse that will be showing some in amateur classes is MACK K REBEL JOHN, an aged gelding owned by F. L. Eddens of Birmingham, Alabama. He is a big horse that can go around the ring in a big way. He will be shown by Mrs. Gail Chambers. Wayne has several other young and aged horses in training. This summer, win or lose, you’ll know horses from Bridlewood Stables have been in the show ring. Wayne invites everyone to come and see their new stable and the top stock they are working. The stable is located in Morris, Alabama, on Highway 31 North. Jack Warren Stables The big name around the Jack Warren Stables is KEENE’S GO BOY. This big stud is very much in de mand for breeding purposes and is on his way to a record year. But Jack Warren also has his hands full with some real top show prospects. Jack is working two colts by KEENE’S GO BOY, a filly and a stud. Roy Callahan of Charleston. Missouri, is the owner of these colts and Jack calls them the best two-year-olds he has ever started. Two other products of Jack’s top stud are a three-year-old black mare owned by Sam Goodin, of Charleston, Missouri, and a three-vear-old black stud owned by Raymond Nelson of Marietta, Georgia. M. G. Williams of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, has a blue roan mare in training with Jack that will be shown in open classes this year. Fie also has two threc-ycar-old mares and a two-year-old filly working for whom he has high hopes. In training with Jack are two of SUN’S NOBLE HAL offspring. A good three-year-old marc owned by Dr. W. H. Hill of Atlanta, Georgia, and a top two-year-old filly owned by Betty Duncan of St. Joseph, Missouri. Jack also has two other fine studs standing at his stable this year. SHADOW’S UNTOUCHABLE is owned by W. C. Armstrong and GO BOY’S SOUTHERN SUN is VOICE of the Tennessee Walking Horse
