( Continued from Page 10 ) Hinson ’ s Walking Horse Stables
Dudley Sledge , trainer at Hinson ’ s Walking Horse Stables , seems to have some of the top horses around this year . MIDNIGHT MAJOR , a two-year-old black sorrel stud owned by Joe Carter of Columbia , S . C ., is doing very well this year . He has shown three times and tied the blue twice . Another two-year-old stud , a red sorrel owned by Dudley and C . E . Hinson , has the makings of a top horse , and Dudley has high hopes for him .
The top three-year-old at the barn is GO BOY ’ S DISSECTOR , a chestnut stud owned by Hargrove Montgomery of Sumter .
Dudley is still proud of his big black four-year-old stallion that is even better this year than before . JET S GO BOY SOUVENIR is owned by Mr . Hinson and is a horse to look for at the celebration this year . JET has been shown twice this '/ ear , and has won two blues .
Another good four-year-old stallion that is doing real well in SHADOW ’ S RED ROOSTER , a sorrel owned by Mr . Hinson . SHADOW ’ S SUMTER QUEEN , Mr . Hinson ’ s black six-year-old mare , is winning her share of the . blues this year . She was the top Junior horse of South Carolina last year . Dudley is now working 18 horses and welcomes visitors at all times .
Paul Smith Stables
In a recent letter to the VOICE , trainer Paul Smith asked us to point out that he is still in business for himself and is operating a public stable . Due to a slight misunderstanding regarding the release of information on the purchase of the farm property where Paul ’ s stable operation is located , it was deemed necessary that we clarify the exact working arrangement of Mr . Smith .
Paul has had this stable leased for over two years and retains his lease agreement with the new owners . At the present he is working horses for customers from seven states . In addition to the three horses he is working for Mr , Frank Roper and the one he has in training for Mr . and Mrs . William Staley , Paul is working a barn full of top stock . Visit the Paul Smith Stables whenever you are in Lewisburg , Tennessee . He is always pleased to have visitors .
Green & Livingstone Stables
Toby Green , well-known Walking Horse trainer from Shelbyville , Tennessee , recently announced the establishment of the Green & Livingstone Stables at his barn on the Tullahoma Highway . Toby has joined forces with
Mr . George Livingstone , who previously operated his own training stable in Shelbyville . Both Toby and George are recognized horsemen and together should produce some top stock for both Amateur and Professional competition . Toby already had a full load of stock that he was working and , coupled with the fine horses that George was able to bring with him , they should have their work cut out for them . It is expected that George will do most of the riding and showing while Toby will
26 work in his established capacity as the “ best ground man in the business .” Together they should do well . We will probably hear more about this “ dynamic duo ” later on !
Joe Martin Stables
It was recently learned that Joe and Judy Martin have moved their training operation to the stable facilities previously occupied by George Livingstone in Shelbyville They have been located at the old Patent Leather Farms just outside Wartrace for the past year and have quickly built a fine reputation for training and showing since they returned to Middle Tennessee . Joe and Judy are both active as showring competitors and should do well in their new stable . The barn is in excellent shape and they have all facilities necessary for training show horses . Drop by to see them !
Clair Boyd Hudgins
Mr . and Mrs . Boyd Hudgins of Macon , Georgia , recently announced the birth of a daughter . Named Clair Boyd Hudgins , after both families , she weighed 7 lbs ., 4 oz ., and was born May 25 in Macon , Georgia . Grandparents are Mr . and Mrs . Curtis Hudgins of Gainesville , Georgia , and Mr . and Mrs . Frank Talbot of Macon .
Wink Groover Stables
Big news at the Wink Groover stables is the recent sale of ACE ’ S SENSATION , a remarkable three-year-old stallion . Wink and Buddy Black owned the horse and reportedly sold him for an amount well into five figures to Billy Hale of Gallatin , Tennessee . Make a note regarding this horse , as you are going to hear more about him .
On the other side of the ledger is news of the death of ELDORADO ’ S ECLIPSE , a fine black three-year-old stallion owned by Mr . and Mrs . Dan Clippenger , Sr ., of Signal Mountain , Tennessee . He died of colic and a twisted intestine . ECLIPSE had come on strong this year and was a top horse . He will be hard to replace .
