horse is the Reserve Champion of the World and a leading contender for the big World Championship next year. Not to be outdone, however, Wink Groover, riding ACE’S SENSATION for Beech and Hale, head ed his three-year-old black stud down the rail in a most impressive display of showmanship to tie Re serve. He too is a great horse! Tying third was DUKE’S HANDY MAN with Her- shel Talley up. Fourth was GO BOY’S BLACK LA BEL, a top mare owned by Sally Hill Farms, ridden by Donald Paschal. Fifth in this strong class was Al bert Rowland on QUARTERBACK SNEAK, another top contender, owned by Mr. J. B. Sherrill. It was a great class! The first night’s performance got under way with the Two-Year-Old Killy Class and it was Doug Wol- aver on HANDSHAKER’S LADY KIM, the World Champion filly, that was again in the spotlight. This fine black filly was sold during the show to the Lyle Cashion Company, owners of Cashion Farms, Shel- byville, Tennessee. The Two-Year-Old Stud Class saw another popular Celebration Class Champion come to the front. TIGER BAY, ridden by Bob Cherry for Kilpatrick, Harber and Cherry, was outstanding in winning the Blue in a fine class of two-year-old stallions. Preach Fleming riding MERRY MARK made his "mark” on the record books by defeating a fancy class of Two-Year-Old Geldings. This colt is owned by Mr. R. D. Keene of Orlando, Florida, and has great promise for 1968. The Amateur 50 and Over Class saw the popular team of Gayden Schrock and PRIDE OF SPRING take the blue in a good class of experienced and determined riders. Bob Burris put his years of experience to work to win the Four-Year- Old Gelding Class of BEL AIRE SECOND SON for Mr. and Mrs. D. O. Gregory of Nashville. Ann Daugette, riding the World Champion Junior Mare ROCK-A-BY LADY, made a great show to take the blue in the Junior Mare event. This big-time mare makes a fine combination with Ann and they should do well next year/ It was Buddy Black riding GO BOY’S BRENDA LEE, another fine World Champion, to Victory Lane in the Three-Year-Old Mare Class. Buddy has carried this mare undefeated for new owner Bill Grandquest in several late-season shows. Lloyd Wood, riding his flawless CLOWN’S SPUR, put on a show to win the blue in the Men’s Amateur Class. This bay stud and Lloyd are always in conten tion every time they enter the ring, and this time they didn’t let their followers down. As the Junior Stallions hit the gate it was obvious that a show was underway. J. E. Renfroe, riding SUN UP R, made a great show to tie the blue. This fancy horse is hard to fault and should make his way to honor next year as an age horse. SUN’S TROUBLE MAKER made "trouble” for all contenders in the Three-Year-Old Gelding Class with Robert Lee Mar shall of Brookville, Virginia up. Coming on strong in the Three-Year-Old Stud Class was Wink Groover on ACE’S SENSATION. This big-lick stallion has ev erything and showed it in this class to take the blue. The Two-Year-Old Championship Stake saw Bob Cherry show them another notch on TIGER BAY as he made a great show of two perfect gaits for a young horse. Reserve in the Stake was GO BOY’S BLACK ROOSTER, the World Champion Futurity Colt, with Donald Paschal up for Capt. and Mrs. E. A. Self of Mobile, Alabama. Third was HANDSHAKER’S LADY KIM, with Doug Wolaver up for Forrest Margraves Union, Kentucky. s The Age Mare class was won handily by PrPa- Fleming on B. MAJOR’S ANNIE, a fine maie owned by R. D. Keene. The Lady Amateur Class was next and Mrs. Lyle (Karen) Cashion took a popular blue on GO BOY’S LADY ANN, a fine black mare that has had a great season this year. Vic Thompson took the spotlight with MAGIC KNIGHT, the great aged gelding owned by L & J Stables, Kansas City, Mo in the Aged Gelding Class as he won another blue in fine fashion. The Three-Year-Old Championship Stake was a good one. ACE’S SENSATION, Wink Groover up, was again victorious, with a great show of natu-al ability and determination. Not to be outdone, however was Mack Motes on the ever-popular SUPER SPORT who tied Reserve, as he did in the Celebrat;on. Buddy Kirby was third on GO BOY’S JET STAR for Mc Minnville Stables. It was Candace Williams and GO BOY’S ROYAL HEIR who captured the crowd in the Owner/ Amateur Class. Making another great show, this World Champ ion team was again victorious in winning the Blue in a great class. Little Beth Turney of Somerville, Ala bama took the Juvenile 12 & Under Class on SPUR’S MR. GLORY, and Judy Tillett continued her Blue Ribbon crusade as she rode THE UNTOUCHABLE to another victory in the Juvenile 13 thru 17 Class. The Junior Championship - always a thriller at Montgomery - was again impressive. Again it was J. W. Renfroe on SUN-UP R that rode to perfection and tied the blue with a great performance. Reserve was Hershel Talley on CLOWN’S IMAGE, a big-lick stud that can really go. Third was JET’S GO BOY SOUVENIR, with Dudley Sledge up for C. E. Hinson of Sumter, S. C. The Walking Pony Championship saw some top action as LITTLE BIT O’ TROUBLE took the blue with Ray Beech making his final show on this Champion. He has been sold to Mr. Carmage Walls of Montgomery, Alabama. Taking a popular Reserve was SETTING SUN’S APOLLO, with Lynn Doughty up for Doughty Stables, Mobile, Alabama. Third was THUNDERBOLT, a fine chestnut sorrel ridden by Pat Puckett for Dr. and Mrs. R. C. Richard son of Albany, Georgia The Amateur Championship Stake saw a top per formance by a lot of fine amateurs. When the dust cleared, it was GO BOY’S ROYAL HEIR with Can dace Williams making her final ride. It has been de cided that he will be shown next year by Donald Paschal and Candace, although reluctant, consented with tears in her eyes. They have made a great team. Reserve was HILL’S PERFECTION with Kim Lovette of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina up. Third was MESHACK with J. G. Gullett up.
