THE HI! LINE By: Billy Joe Ann Estess Hi! Another show season is over and everyone is already thinking about how differently they are going to do things next year. A word for the wise - "Work hard, strive to accomplish your goals - but don’t blame those who do when you don’t!" Heart O' Dixie Walking Horse Association is going "great guns" and accomplishing much, having just had their first annual Futurity. There were plenty of good colts and 1 think it was a tremendous success. On December 9, the Heart O' Dixie folks held their first Annual Awards Banquet, honoring their mem bers for both their hard work and their interest. A report on that event will be given next month. One note of interest - Dr. William Warr of Phenix City, Alabama bought GO BOY'S WILD CAT from us. This fine black stallion was much loved by all the Reid Estess family, but we are happy that he has been placed with someone who will appreciate him. At this time WILD CAT is under the very capable hands of Mr. G. G. Breeland of Tylertown, Miss., who will direct his progress for Dr. Warr. Since Christmas is just around the corner, Happy Holidays from the Estess clan - see y’all next year. HEART O' DIXIE CHAMPION: Miss Sharon Terry and BLACK SOUTHERN- AIRE recently won the Heart 0’ Dixie Grand Championship at McComb, Mississippi. Sharon won the Aged Stallion and Gelding preliminary earlier to qualify for the stake. Over a hundred Walking Horses from six states competed In the fifteen classes. 46 Way Down South by Janie Bramlett Hello again from "Way Down South.’’ Show season has come to an end and thoughts are already turned toward what "68’’ will bring. From all reports, CAR BON COPY is the up-and-coming new style for '68. Various trainers in our area are giving glowing re ports of the outstanding progress being made by this popular World’s Champion’s sons and daughters. Mr. George Lenox is especially proud of the fine progress being made by his already famous filly, WA MOO LANG. Wink Groover is working this top filly and grooming her for top honors in '68. Other popular styles with many fine, new models coming out in '68 are EBONY MASTERPIECE, SUN’S DELIGHT, and MERRY GO BOY - always hard to beat. Our congratulations to Ronnie Spears and GO BOY’S FLYING CLOUD. After tying a strong sixth at this year’s Celebration, Ronnie and CLOUD went on to capture the Mobile Championship and, two weeks later, the Dixie Jubilee Championship at Baton Rouge. With the Florida circuit next in line, the future looks bright for this formidable pair. Aside from the usual excitement of the Deep South shows, recent sales and purchases have highlighted the past few months’ horse activities "Way Down South.’’ Mr. Frank Parnell has recently added a new horse to his championship list of entries. Following this year’s Celebration, Mr. Parnell purchased the great four-year-old stud, WARLOCK. After WARLOCK tied reserve in the Junior Stake, his owners, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Waggoner, were besieged with offers for their fine horse, but it was Mr. Frank who finally suc ceeded in purchasing him. I understand that Doug Wolaver will be trying for championship number four with this fine contender next year. Another recent sale involved the fine amateur horse, GO BOY’S FANCY PANTS. He and his owner, Pete Robinson, were a well-known pair in horse show circles throughout the mid-South area. But Pete won’t be out of the saddle for long: trainer Ronnie Spears has already found Pete a new mount, and from what I hear, this new horse will be as hard to beat as GO BOY’S FANCY PANTS.
