that was trimmed in Christmas wrapping. Lonny and Helen sat down and opened the package. " How nice...” said Helen. Lonny suddenly sobered up and stuck out his hand to Dr. Greely. " Thanks a lot, Doc. 1 think it is one of the best horse pictures I have ever seen... really. I do appreciate it.” Lonny stood back apd held up a big full-color action picture of himself on BEAU GENTRY. " Isn’ t that great?” he asked the crowd. " That Les Wilson can really take a picture!”

ALABAMA WALKING ON
by Gail B. Chambers Box 14 Morris, Alabama
I received the nicest letter recently from Dr. B. S. Henry of Pine Tree Farm, Russellville, Alabama. Dr. and Mrs. Henry are the owners of the 1967 World’ s Grand Champion, GO BOY’ S SUN DUST. The Henrys left on Tuesday after the Celebration for a trip to
Europe. They visited many horse breeding farms in Ireland and England, most of which featured thoroughbreds, hunters and jumpers. However, they were most flattered that these people knew so much about the Tennessee Walking Horse.
Dr. Henry’ s letter, in part, read as follows: " To give you a short resume of my family, Mrs. Henry and I have two daughters. The older, Janis, age 21, has been showing Walking Horses for the past ten years,
actually having shown GO BOY’ S SUN DUST several times as a four-year-old and winning the blue ribbon
each time. Janis is at present a junior at the University of Mississippi, and expects to ride her amateur gelding, SUN DUST’ S THOR, next summer. She has shown this horse several times this past summer and was never tied below fourth.
" We have another stake horse in SUN DUST PER
FECTION, a black stallion being trained and shown by Bud Dunn, that we believe is just about as good
as GO BOY’ S SUN DUST. We have held him out of competition the past couple of years so that we might concentrate on GO BOY’ S SUN DUST. However, we plan to push him this next year in the Stake Class.
We have still a third seven-year-old black stallion, GO BOY’ S BLACK DANDY, who has been trained and shown by George Witt of Athens, Alabama. This horse was World’ s Champion Two-Year-Old Stallion at the Celebration in 1962. A series of unfortunate accidents have kept him from showing since then.
" Our younger daughter Gayle( Coochi), 16, is very much interested in horses but does not choose to ride. We have owned Walking Horses for the past 8-10
ye sirs and certainly nothing has given us more family pleasure than traveling to horse shows, particularly
when some of our horses were showing. I highly recommend it as one of the greatest family sports that anyone can participate in.”
I appreciate Dr. Henry’ s letter, and thought most of you would be interested in it. I might add here that I was glad to see an Alabama trainer, Bud Dunn, given his share of the credit in the VOICE article about GO BOY’ S SUN DUST. He well deserves a big share of it.
Robert L. Sandlin of Warrior, Alabama has quite a brood mare operation going. MISS MIDNIGHT PROWLER, a nice mare by MIDNIGHT PROWLER, has a yearling filly by MERRY GO BOY and a stud colt by MERRY GO BOY, and is bred back to SUN’ S DELIGHT. Another nice mare, GYPSY RENOWN, has a two-year-old white stud colt by MERRY MAC W. B., which is by MACK K’ S HANDSHAKER. This colt, MACK’ S GYPSY MAN, is in training with Wayne Luna and is showing very good prospects. GYPSY RENOWN also has an eighteen-month-old filly by
MERRY MAC W. B. and a five-month-old stud colt by HANDSHAKER. Mr. Sandlin has two SETTING SUN
mares, one of which is bred to TRIPLE THREAT. The other foaled recently. A MIDNIGHT SUN mare of his has been bred to SPUR’ S CLOWN. In addition to his brood mares, Mr. Sandlin also owns SHADOWS TOM CAT, an aged gelding, and SUN DUST SPECIAL, a four-year-old gelding. Both have been shown by Wayne Luna this season. Rob and Kathleen Sandlin also brought back a souvenir from the Celebration this year. They purchased SUN’ S GOLD LABEL, a fouryear-old stallion. This sorrel roan with flax mane and tail is by MIDNIGHT SUN. A well-bred stallion, he should prove to be a good breeding stallion as well as a show horse. Best of luck to the Sandlins in the horse business. I am sure they will welcome anyone who drops by to see their fine colts.

Season’ s Greetings
