PROFESSIONALS ON PARADE( Continued from Page 13)
quite well with him to date. Barbara Whaley has a new mare in training with Jimmy. Her name is SHADOW S
MERRY PENNY and she should be a top mare.
Then there is Mr. Maddox’ s four-year-old black stallion, GO BOY’ S BIG SHOT. This is the horse Mr. Maddox bought as a weanling that went on to become World s Champion Weanling Futurity colt at the 1963 Celebration. BIG SHOT came back in 1964 and repeated his performance in the yearling division of the Futurity. In 1965 he carried on his winning ways by winning the Two- Year-Old Futurity Championship. In 1966 he was victorious in the three-vear-old class at the Dixie Jubilee. GO BOY’ S BIG SHOT is one of the cockiest show horses in the ring today. His conformation is perfect like a champion’ s should be, and his tremendous lick and head-shaking motion make him one to watch out for m all junior classes.
Each year Jimmy Holloway has a sale which is held on the last Friday and Saturday in March. Jimmy has had five very successful sales, the last one being held in the Jackson Coliseum, a choice location. These sales have done much to promote the horse business in the Mid-
South.
Jimmy’ s“ Sale Ball” is one of th emost parties of the year with trainers and exhibitors. Jimmy and Bernice knock themselves out to make this party a success, and what a success it is! Jimmy and Bernice have been complimented many times on their southern hospitality. Jimmy can really sing and he usually provides some of the entertainment himself.
Mr. Maddox sponsors a children’ s baseball team for thirteen- and fourteen-year-old boys, for which Jimm } is the coach. It is a part of the Dixie Youth Program and is called The Little Boys’ League. They have played some outstanding games this season and have done very well. Jimmy is ever)’ bit as good a coach as he is a horse trainer.
Jimmy Holloway is already on top as a horse trainer and he will go much further. Needless to say, all of the horses he has made could not be named here, for there are far too many of them. Jimmy and Bernice welcome visitors to their beautiful home in Hollowray Hills and are always more than happy to show them around.
Mountain States Tennessee Walkers
Here’ s a“ Howdy” from the Walking Horse enthusiasts of Utah and Idaho. We are not too many or too closely knit because we are somewhat scattered over a wide area. However, we do get together for a few meetings and to exchange some“ Now, My Horse...” stories and to have an amateur show.
In April we met at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City under Eddie Isaacson’ s arrangements to make show plans, trail ride arrangements, and to see the Celebration films’
Dr. Owen Andrus, owner of one of the few stallions in this area, is organizing three trail rides for our summer enjoyment: one in the Salt Lake area, one in Davis County, and one in Weber County. These will provide a time for swapping horse stories and bragging about their own loved mounts.

Ken Milne, who has two walkers, showed the films he took this last February of the Walking Horses in the show at the Date Festival, held annually at Indio, California. Ken had done a professional picture-taking job.
Officers for the 1967-68 season were selected as follows: President— Sidney Baucom, Salt Lake City, Utah Vice Pres.— Dr. Bert Green, Salt Lake City, Utah Scc.-Trcas.— Margaret Fine, Riverton, Utah Directors— Dr. Owen Andrus, Salt Lake City Eddie Isaacson, Salt Lake City Farrell Johnson, Salt Lake City Ivan Mathews, Shelly, Idaho Gene Robinson, Ogden, Utah Marion Fine, Riverton, Utah
Gene and Hazel Robinson of Ogden( Gene’ s article on the superior ability of the Walker as a trail horse appeared in the Dec. 1966 issue of the VOICE) run about twenty head of Tennessee Walkers on their farm. These two enthusiasts are ardent supporters of all TWH activities near and far.
Dr. and Mrs. William Shurtliff, also of Ogden, have a top stallion, MIDNIGHT MACK K’ S DIAMOND LIL’ MAN, who has sired many colts in this area.
Ivan Mathews of Idaho is very pleased with his stallion, BIG JOE ALLEN, who has placed well in area shows. BLACK HAWK is a proven show horse and stud and is owned by Jack Edwards. Dr. Richards of Provo and Bill Briggs of Manila are well pleased with their studs, as is Marion Fine with his stallion, FORTUNE’ S FAN- CEY, recently brought in from Montana.
By rough count we must have 70 mares and fillies in our area. And have many“ would-like-to-be” owners.
Several of our horses are used as mounts for deer hunters who praise the Walkers for their sureness of foot, endurance, and dependability in the rough country of our wonderful mountains.
Ride in to see us sometime!
