The Heart of America Jubilee Horse Show held at
Springfield, Mo. June 30 and July 1 was sponsored by
the Lions Club, and was quite a success this year. The
Lions Club had a free barbecue for all the exhibitors at
the Echo Acres Stables, owned by C. L. LeDuc of Spring-
field. The turnout was the largest ever, with attendance
well over 400. The famous singer-composer Wayne Carson
and his band entertained all afternoon while everyone
enjoyed the delicious barbecue.
Had a nice visit with the Bill Maacks of Polk, Mis
souri. They have added a tack room, a wash room and
a large walker to their stable facilities. They have quite
a string of good show horses in training this year. Ed Sap-
pington has a two-year-old chestnut stud, SKY ROCKET,
in training. SUN’S BELLE BOY, a black four-year-old
stallion owned by John Sims of Blackwater, shows great
possibilities.
Don Cook of South Dakota has several good horses in
training here. One is a three-year-old black roan which tied
third at the Springfield Jubilee show. Another is MIL
LIONAIRE’S GOLD by MILLIONAIRE KID. He is
an unusual beautiful golden color, and has shown quite
some great promise. Another of Don’s horses is EBONY’S
RAMBLER by EBONY MASTERPIECE, a two-year-old
stud. He tied first at the two-year-old class at Springfield.
George Karlskint of Marshfield, Mo. has several good
prospects in training. SAMS GRANDSLAM, a bay roan
two-year-old stud, has placed in most all of his classes
this year. He tied first at Webb City, second at Nevada,
and third at Warrensburg. George’s MAGIC MOMENTS,
a three-year-old chestnut stud, won at Lexington, tied
second at Springfield, and won the class at Brunswick,
Mo. George also has several weanlings by SILVER SAM
in pasture.
Max Atkinson of Olean, Mo. has two horses with
Bill: LULU, a two-year-old filly, won the filly class at
Springfield, tied second at Marshfield, second at Eugene,
and third at Warrensburg; and EBONY’S BLACK
GOLD, a two-year-old stud purchased at Dr. Baney’s
sale.
