An Open Letter To Betty Sain
W c have received numerous letters and interesting comments regarding our coverage of the 1966 Celebration in the October “ Parade of Champions ” edition . The most outstanding comment thus far has been criticism of our failure to have the World ’ s Grand Champion on the front cover and a corresponding feature story about Miss
Betty Sain and SHAKER ’ S SHOCKER . We would like to assure our readers that there was no intention on our
part to slight Miss Sain and her worthy Champion for their most amazing feat . It was only at her personal request that we consented to remove a story that we had already prepared for publication . It was her feeling at the time that it would be in the best interest of the Walking Horse business if we did not play up her victory too much and consequently we sold the from cover to another World Champion .

I am proud that the Tennessee Walking Horse is still in the an s of the cheering crowd ’, for they are the ones who uy the horses , attend the local shows and support the pio essional trainers . I cannot agree with the Voice that f^V10-5506 " professional pride ”, “ established standards ° e tisincss and “ a firm bond within the ranks of the professional replace the “ cheers of the crowd ”.
