was his dashing palomino, Pat’s Grace. Seventeen- hand Marsden’s Big Man (by Old Glory’s Big Man), mount of the day for HELEN PORTER, alternately forged into the swirl and then was only too happy to work at an angle up and away from all that crashing foam. WEST COAST WALKINOD ■L | by Helen Porter | QQ 6444 Hickory Avenue Orangevale, California GOLDEN GATE TRAIL RIDE STABLE NEWS Gleaming sun with occasional overcast found nearly half of the Golden Gate Trail Ride mounted on Ten nessee Walking Horses February 27. Some of those attending were: Miss GUI DE ANGULO of Santa Rosa on her Rue’s Blue Belle (double Blue Namron) purchased last year from VERDON WALKER’S Fair way Stables at Concord; Mr. and Mrs. KNUTE DON ALDSON of Roseville; and Mr. and Mrs. ROBERT BENSON of Diablo with their recently-acquired Simp- kin’s Show Boy (his first outing as a gelding). His flashy silver roan coloring had helped him win at parades for his original owner, CHARLES SIMPKINS of Auburn. The elegant black trail-trained Coloma’s Go Boy (by Stately Go Boy) was thoroughly enjoyed by Mrs. Benson. Miss Elk Grove of 1964, PENNY GANT, now a TWA stewardess, got in on a jet flight from New York at 5:00 AM to find a note that an extra horse had been brought down from Elk Grove by PAUL MASTERSON. DICK and CAROL KRUMM of Sacramento, DAR LENE Donaldson’s sister, JOAN LOVEROCK of Cit rus Heights, and Mr. and Mrs. JACK FOSTER of Rose ville just managed to get in as the horses were leaving from Horsemen’s Retreat, the beautiful woodsy picnic area and ring of Golden Gate Park. The mounted pol ice of Golden Gate Park provide a mounted escort and guide for any group, such as this one originated by LESTER PORTER. Boldest of all with the breakers TUSCALOOSA PLANS FIFTH ANNUAL SHOW by Elizabeth Brannon The members of the Junior Wel fare Association in Tuscaloosa, Ala bama, are working hard making plans for the Fifth Annual J W A Charity Horse Show. The show is scheduled for June 17-18, 1966, at the Tuscaloosa Riding Club. Mrs. DWIGHT MORGAN is serving as Horse Show Chairman this year and is being assisted by Mrs. JOHN PRADAT. Proceeds from the show will be used to continue the extensive pro gram for needy children in Tusca loosa County. These activities in clude maintaining dental clinics, a children’s story hour at the library, and providing Christmas toys for the indigent children. May, 1966 The LEONARD DUNN Stable has been most occu pied moving into their new location, the former BOB BY INGERSOLL barn (Western). More news from them another time. DORIS MCCLELLAND of Carmichael has had horses in training at various times at different barns, but has had all at home for some months now and has made room for DEE JOHNSON’S Phantom Beau. Dee is helping her work her own horses. Doris and her grandson, WARREN MYHRE, ride in both show and pleasure, as does Dee, and also trail rides. Doris is very active in the parades with the well- known Ladies’ Mounted Patrol of the Sacramento Horsemen’s Association. Her favorites, as always, are the twins, Duo-Sun and Duo-Sue, by Stately Go Boy. Perhaps the oldest Tennessee Walking Horse Club in California is the Morada Club in Stockton. One of the most active members for a number of years has been FRANK PETERSEN, who has been working his own horse, Morada’s Gay Boy. Previously in show classes, Gay Boy has been in the new Pleasure classes the past three years, collecting an assortment of trophies. Frank was the 1965 President for Morada and his charming official braider-upper was Secretary. Another very active Morada member, Dr. DON HAR RINGTON, has done a great deal for the breed for many years and it is greatly regretted that he lost his West Coast Grand Champion Midnight Tomboy due to a sudden internal complication last fall. We are pleased to announce that Mr. PETE YOKLEY of Pulaski, Ten nessee, will be with us this year as our announcer. Mr. LAWRENCE SNELSON of Jackson, Tennessee, will serve as Walking Horse judge. Our show has grown so rapidly that we are faced with the problem of seating all of the spectators and at present we are working on con structing some new bleachers to be ready for this year’s show. All of the barns will have a fresh coat of paint and the grounds in general will be in tip-top shape.
