In a recent conversation with Mr. JACK MONT GOMERY, General Manager of Bailey-Montgomery Stables in Shelbyville, Tennessee, we learned that their stallions, Go Boy’ s Shadow and Piddley, experienced record seasons at stud in 1965. Discussing the various reasons for their continued popularity, Mr. Montgomery " pointed out that these two horses have ' Just about everything that a breeder wants.” Pulling Shadow out of his stall for our personal inspection, a task which he is asked to do for many, many visitors to their stable, Jack called attention to the big black stud’ s conformation. Mentioning his massive neck, unusually large and intelligent eyes, short back and powerful back-end, Jack parked him for us and proudly asked if anyone could fault him.
As Walking Horses go, Go Boy’ s Shadow must truly be considered one of the most superb examples the breed has yet produced. Among Shadow’ s many attractive features, Jack said, are two records that are hard to argue with: his tremendous showring record; and his almost incomparable record as a producer of exceptional colts. " Shadow,” Jack stated, " was the 1955 and 1956 World’ s Grand Champion. Many people have said that he was one of the few horses ever to win this crown that was virtually in a class by himself.” As for Shadow’ s blood lines, Jack takes a great deal of pride in the fact that he is a double grandson of the incomparable Merry Boy. He is by Merry Go Boy out of Merry Walker, and has about as much depth of great blood as any major
COME UP, HORSE— Making a good pass across the hill, Jack shows the caliber of horses that Shadow is capable of producing. This three-year-old black stallion was not shown as a two-year-old. He has attracted a lot of attention thus far this year and could be one of the top three-year-olds of 1966.
