During these cold months when the winter has about confined us to " showing horses” in the tack room and in front of the fireplace, we are visiting some of the barns and making plans for the next season. We just got word from Fashion Two Twenty Stables in Aurora, Ohio, that GREGG GOCHNEAUR has put his good colt, Gregg’ s Perfection, by Sun’ s Go Boy Again and out of Shadow’ s Blaze, in training with BILLY LILES of Hi-Tyre Farm, Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. We also heart that Shadow’ s Blaze is started back after being laid up for a few weeks. Along with Mr. Fashion Two Twenty and Gregg’ s new horse, Florida’ s Last Chance, this should make a formidable show string for next year.
TYLER SADDLE CLUB HOLDS THIRD ANNUAL GAITED HORSE SHOW
Excitement is mounting as preparations get underway for the Third Annual Tyler Saddle Club Gaited Horse Show, April 15 and 16. This is the first time for the club to hold a two-day show. Classes include, in addition to ten Walking Horse classes, three- and five-gaited, pleasure, Arabian, equitation, Appaloosa, registered Quarter Horse, road horse and Peruvian Paso, and an exhibition of Galiceno horses. JASON SUMMERS will provide his usual excellent brand of music.
TOM CLAY heads up an able committee in charge of building the 30 new stalls on the show grounds. Plenty of other stall accommodations are available a short distance from the show grounds.
One of the most popular features of the show last year, which will be repeated this year, was the presentation of a free patented Tyler rosebush to each exhibitor.
A party for exhibitors will be held immediately after the performance Friday night, April 15, at the home of Mr. ABE POUNDS at Greenbriar Lake. Mrs. MAXWELL HERRING, who is in charge of this party,
Last week we visited Fairview Stables of Hamilton, Ohio, owned by Dr. and Mrs. JAMES SMITH with training and management inthe hands of ULUS ALLEN and JOE LITTLE. They are working some nice horses including Top Side’ s Blue Boy who won the amateur class at the Carthage Horse Show last fall; Mighty Sunscamp, owned by JAY and JUDY THOMPSON; and Go Boy’ s Party Girl. Mighty Sunscamp is a twoyear-old stallion by Mr. and Mrs. J. R. LEWIS’ Mighty Sun and appears to have that bold front end in the making. Dr. and Mrs. Smith have a beautiful home and nice facilities for boarding and training horses. We wish them good luck as newcomers in the Walking Horse world.
We just returned from the Escue Stables of Hebron, Kentucky, where we had a nice visit with JOE and JUDY MARTIN. Judy showed some pictures of Mr. WINSTON WISER, her father, and many of the horses which he was training years ago. We saw pictures of Merry Go Boy and Go Boy’ s Shadow and it was sure a thrill to see Merry Go Boy really walking on with no boots, no chains, and just keg shoes. From the way Shadow looked there is nothing today on the show circuit that would give him a hard time. It was interesting to note that in 1955 Shadow won the World’ s Championship without boots and in 1956 He won it wearing boots.
• Joe and Judy showed us many good horses in the Escue Stables. These included Meet Midnight Mary, their good stake mare; Shadow’ s Jet, the World’ s Champion pony who is fat and sassy; and seven twoyear-olds which they are working hard and which appear to be top prospects. We were pleased to see a big black colt by Sun’ s Delight who is fine as a deer and pretty as a picture. The Fray Escue Stables is prettier every time we see it. With a new lounge and living quarters it is nearly perfect for a real Walking Horse farm.
has requested that reservations be made in advance of the show.
Last year’ s show visitors particularly enjoyed the Azalea Trail and show visitors this year will have an opportunity to view this spectacle again.
