BUDDY HUGH STABLES
Much talk has generated around the construction of the new BUDDY HUGH Stables on the old Wartrace Highway in Shelbyville . He is currently working out of an older stable in town , awaiting the completion of his new barn . It is obvious to the trained eye that a lot of care and planning has gone into the construction of this stable . Ample room is provided in all areas for working with horses . The barn contains
thirty stalls , each 14 ’ X 14 ’, with automatic waterers and plenty of ventilation . The hallway is twenty-five feet wide , allowing room to work horses along the
two-hundred-twenty-foot run .
The barn is open-beam construction allowing maximum room for hay and storage overhead . Vinyl panels are placed at strategic locations within the tin roof allowing excellent lighting throughout the stable during the day . Branching off from the entranceway toward the rear is a large cross-tie area and an automatic cooler . Buddy ’ s paneled office and a lounge will be located in front with a colonial porch out front . This will no doubt become a favorite gathering place for horse lovers who will want to come and whittle in the shade of the giant oak trees out front . Buddy plans to open sometime the latter part of June .
Moving day will be particularly hectic for Buddy and his lovely wife ANNETTE , who assists him in almost every phase of his business except riding . They will have a barn full of horses almost from the start . Making the trip to new quarters will be Shadow ’ s Motion Man , a truly great four-year-old bay stallion owned by Mr . and Mrs . Charlie Waters . Goldfinger , owned by the Waters , will also make the trip . He is being groomed for three-year-old honors this year . Gunsmoke ’ s Minute Man , a top two-year-old , is making a great play for Junior laurels also . He is owned by J . H . BOWMAN of Shelbyville . Buddy has a black two-year-old stud that he is particularly pleased with . As yet unnamed , this horse has the makings of a great one to bring yet more honor to his sire , Merry Go Boy . He is owned by DERRY- BERRY & THOMAS of Shelbyville . Sun ’ s Holiday ( who is for sale ) is making progress for Charlie Waters and should be a top horse again this year . Mr . ERNEST SMITH has a top bay two-year-old stallion by his fine stallion Sir Winston , and Mrs . JEAN WOLFE , of Oconomowoc , Wisconsin , has a good three-yearold mare by Rodger ’ s Perfection . WALLACE DUNN and FRED WIGGINS own a good bay stallion that is full brother of Shadow ’ s King Cotton that is also making progress .
We hope to keep you will imformed on the progress of the new Buddy Hugh Stables and trust that Mr . Hugh will realize more of the same success that he has had in the past few years .
A welcome addition to the growing string of top horses at the Buddy Hugh Stables is Mack K ’ s Big Story . Owned by Mr . and Mrs . LACY WEST of Kingsport , Tennessee , Big Story has been considered as one of the finest horses of the breed for several years .

He has been out of action for almost two years - is reported to be in excellent shape . It is rum and that he is being groomed for the " big ring ” at Shelh^
ville . A lot of people think that this is one of the f horses that could get the job done . Watch for a w * golden sorrel stallion with a flax mane and tail u
he is hitting a tremendous lick , it will probably h Big Story . y De
HORACE YOUNG STABLES
If any man in the Walking Horse business could be called " everybody ’ s buddy ,” it is HORACE YOUNG of Lewisburg , Tennessee . This well-known trainer is about as easy-going as any man in the business and every time the gate opens you can count on him to be in there with some good stock . Horace has made a lot of top horses in the past and has some in the making now . We visited his stable on the Fayetteville Highway just outside Lewisburg recently and found him hard at work . Horace does not believe in rushing young stock and will not show them until they are ready . In this class this year he is working a really good Handshaker colt owned by Dr . and Mrs . BILL JONES of Fayetteville , Tennessee . The Jones have had good luck with their Handshakers Rebel and hope to see equal success with this one . Mr . BUDDY MUSGRAVES of Lewisburg has a two-yearold filly that is a " walking hoss .” She needs to grow a little but the makings are there and doing fine . Go Boy ’ s Gentleman , a three-year-old stud , is also owned by Mr . Musgraves . Other two-year-olds include a Mack K stud colt owned by HENRY McKENSEY of Ashburn , Georgia , and a black stud whose owner is Miss BRENDA SCOTT of Lewisburg .
Mr . and Mrs . PANGLE STEWART own a roan gelding and also a good Walking Pony named Mr . Talk of the Town . Age horses include a Midnight Sun mare owned by JAMES HAWKINS of Lewisburg , and Sun Dust Jubilee , an aged sorrel stud owned and shown by JOE KELLY of Columbia . Go Boy ’ s Cinderella , a black three-year-old mare , is working fine and will make some good shows this year .
Horace has about twenty horses in training , including eleven two-year-olds . This , within itself , is a good day ’ s work and Horace can be counted upon to make the grade by hard work and " time in the saddle .’ Whenever you are in Lewisburg , be sure to visit the Horace Young Stables . Visitors are always welcome !
EVELYN DEE STABLES
Mr . JAMES L . STANTON and his son , EDDIE , have just recently completed construction on the
Evelyn Dee Stables in Columbia , South Carolina . The new trainer for this stable is SONNY SCRIVNE >
formerly assistant trainer for JIM BABB in Carthage , Missouri . The eighteen-stall barn will be a public show stable with five to ten acres to grow on . Eddie Stanton has been showing for about five years . He won the
South Carolina Championship three years ago on Go Boy ’ s Sprite .
