A. P.“ SONNY” HOLT
On January 1st,“ Sonny” Holt, returned to the stables of Mr. H. L. Fairchild & Son in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Tommy Fairchild is currently working hard on his
CHAMPAGNE TREATY, a bay gelding that is doing quite well in Juvenile Classes.“ Sonny” has some top prospects in the making and some good horses currently under saddle. Among the best are HOT CHOCOLATE, a MERRY GO BOY stud that was purchased from the Jimmy Holloway Sale. He also had a PRIDE OF PANOLA two year old stud that shows great promise. He is working two horses for Smith Oil Company of Yazoo City, Mississippi. One, a three year old mare by MERRY GO BOY and MERRY BOY’ S FLAME, a six year old gelding. Both are doing well.“ Sonny” is also working a good three year old gelding for Mr. W. M. Gatewood. This young trainer has the ability to become one of the best and given the stock to work with, and a little time, should produce some of our Champions of the future.
ED COROTHERS STABLES
One of the standard fixtures of the Middle Tennessee“ horse scene” is trainer Ed Corothers of Franklin, Tennessee. Ed has been in the business for quite a spell and he has a beautiful spread just off Expressway 1-65 outside of Franklin. Ed is standing MIDNIGHT ON PA RADE K, a nine year old black stallion. He says that 1966 has been a good season and he can still breed a few more mares. Currently in training is a good two year old stallion by his stud. He also has a two year old filly owned by the Jamesons that is a half sister to LU’ S LU LU. She is going to make a top mare one of these days. Mr. Bryant Turner of Nashville, has a black three year old stud in training and a Mr. Perry from Indiana has a five year old chestnut stallion doing well. Ed pointed out that this stallion is currently for sale and is priced right.
HALL McNABB
We recently received word of a major transaction at the S. W. Beech Stables involving a top yearling stud named GO BOY’ S BLACK ROOSTER. This colt is a full brother to GO BOY’ S BLACK JACK and was sold by Hall McNabb to Capt. E. A. Self with S. W. Beech acting as agent. The price was reported to be $ 7,000, a near record for such a young colt this time of year. We hear on good advice that everybodv got their“ moneys worth.”
BELNEMUS FARMS
Powhatten, Virginia, is the home fort for the Walking Horse activities of Mr. Nick Elam. Nick points out that his Belnemus Farms is doing quite well with their brood mare operation and colts. They currently have 20 Tennessee Walking Horses, nineteen of them being mares with excellent breeding. Six of these mares are due to foal this year and the rest will probably be bred to MR. NAMRON, a fine stallion owned by Belnemus Farms. Outstanding blood in his brood mare band includes GO BOY’ S SOUVENIER and MERRY GO BOY. With this type of blood crossed with NAMRON breeding. they should get some good stock on the ground next year.

BUD DUNN STABLES
No trip to Florence, Alabama would be complete without a trip to the Bud Dunn Stables. Bud, as most Walking Horse lovers know has a reputation of being able to put about as many top horses into the showring on a given night as any trainer in the business. This year
is no exception!
Bud Dunn was never one to bubble over with enthusiasm but we had to give him a boost regarding one horse. Everyone knows that his top stake horse, GO BOY’ S SUN DUST, is one of the all-time greats of the business. Bud made a strong bid with him last year at the Celebration and wound up fourth in the big stake. He came back strong in the Deep South Circuit, tying Reserve to the third place horse at the Celebration... BUT, and get this! He came back to beat the Celebration second place horse in the Southern Championship in Montgomery.
What does all this add up to! Simply this! That any top horse, on a given night, with unbiased judges, can beat any other top horse. In other words Bud Dunn... you keep what you’ ve got and we believe you have an excellent chance to win the Celebration with GO BOYS SUN DUST.
Bud is working thirty three horses this year. He has another top stake horse in SUNDUST PERFECTION, who is owned by Dr. and Mrs. B. S. Henry, whose daughter Janis owns GO BOY’ S SUNDUST. It’ s a family affair! The horse that has a lot of people talking this year in his four year old, SUN DUST PRECISION. Jack Brewer is justly proud of this four year old black stallion and we understand he has turned down a lot of money for him. Watch for him in the Junior Class this year. Bud has an excellent chance in this one too!
Mr. Lloyd Moore, who sold SOCIETY SUN last year, again has a top two year old in training. They purchased this colt from Wink Groover in the winter and he is a good one. SINKING SUN is his name and he is about right. Happy Innman of farway Columbia, South America, also has a two year old in training. His name is EBONY’ S CELEBRITY and he is also doing well. GO BOY’ S LADY SUN DUST( Bud likes these Sun Dust horses) is a two year old filly owned by Dr. and Mrs. James Lowery of Lawrenceburg, Alabama.
Lewis Biggerstaff and Bud jointly own a good three year old stud colt named SUN DUST SECRET. Mr. Biggerstaff also has SUN DUST UNTOUCHABLE, a j five year old bay stallion in training. Other three year » olds include SUN DUST TWENTY GRAND, owned by Willard Smith and SUN DUST JULIET, a chestnut sorrel mare.
When the SUN turns to DUST, we believe Bud Dunn will get his share of the glory!
ROBINWOOD STABLES
Trainer Dude Prestwood of the Robinwood Stables at D lo, Mississippi is working at a brisk pace trying to get his stock into shape for the remainder of the show season. Dude is doing a fine job at Robinwood and is anxiously looking forward to the rest of the shows.
At present Dude is working some top stock and he took time to tell us about some of his promising prospects. Mr. and Mrs. K. W. Allison of Mendenhall, Mississippi have two horses in training with Dude. MERRY BOY’ S DELIGHT is a real good looking five-year-old mare and MAU GREY’ S CHALLENGER is an aged gelding with
