WAY DOWN SOUTH by Janie Bramlett Box 252 Oxford , Mississippi
Hello again from " Way Down South .” With school
out and horse show season just beginning to get into full swing , it looks like the next few months will be busy ones for both trainers and exhibitors alike . And if these few shows that I have attended are an example of the first-quality shows that we are going to have this season , we are certainly going to have a very competitive year with classes full of top quality
show horses .
Sommerville , Tennessee , held its annual show on May 21 , with J . T . LEECH judging the Walking Horse classes . Mr . and Mrs . FRED FOWLER started the afternoon ’ s activities with a delightful buffet dinner for all the exhibitors . Everyone seemed to enjoy the wonderful food and excellent company . It just wouldn ’ t seem like the Sommerville Horse Show without the Fowlers ’ annual dinner . The visit to the lovely Fowler home and the visit with Mr . FRED , Mrs . Fowler , and DEBBIE is always eagerly looked forward to .
The show which followed the Fowlers ’ party was an excellent one , with all the classes filled with some top show stock despite the foul weather and muddy track . The two-year-old class was won by RUSSELL PATE riding Ebony ’ s Ole Crow owned by BILLY HALE . This was the second straight win for this top two-year-old stud ; he had previously won his class at Searcy , Arkansas . Second in this class was Norman ’ s Go Yonder , ridden by BILL CRUTCHER for Mr . and Mrs . PORTER NORMAN . This black stud is sired b the Normans ’ good stud , Little Merry Boy . The juv ( nile class winner was Go Boy ’ s Challenger , ridde by ROBBIE PEGRAM . The amateur class was wo by Shadow ’ s Shadrack . Mr . FAULKNER took ov € for daughter , FLO , who is away at college , and mad quite a ride . The open Walking Horse stake was wo by Hawk ’ s Memory , ridden by RICHARD PATE fc JEAN SHEPPARD and Richard Pate . Dickie has bee
